Utterly fascinated by any form of magic, the Chaos Corps adheres to a single unifying desire: to understand and evolve.
Accepting that mortals are as chaotic as anything in the known realms, the Corps works to harness and channel the natural power found within them. Melding the power of the unknown, flesh, and metal together they channel their magics through a unique invention, the Chaos Core. These artifacts often change the magics of the wielders in subtle, or not so subtle ways. Used by inventors, adventurers, scientists and more, the Corps believes that the unexpected and unknown results the Core can bring forth are simply previously unknown insights into prior understandings.
Usually free-spirited, members of the Corps can often be found delving through old libraries, exploring lost dungeons or chasing the most recent rumor of greater understanding of the realm. Past, present of future makes no difference, so long as they can approach it with an open mind, and maybe come away with an upgrade for their Core.
- Skill Proficiencies: Arcana, Medicine
- Tool Proficiencies: Pick One: Alchemist's Supplies, Herbalism Kit, Tinker's tools, Smith's tools or Woodcarver's tools.
- Languages: Choose one of Draconic, Elvish, Gnomish, or Undercommon.
- Equipment: One prosthetic arm complete with a Chaos Core(Note: You will be given a basic wand. Rename it Chaos Core. This will allow things such as infusions to work.), several schematics detailing limb upgrades and the design of the chaos core, one set of artisan's tools, set of Traveler's clothes, a belt pouch containing 5 gp.
It is well known that when a member of the Choas Corps is around, stuff tends to go a bit sideways. And backward. And inside out. Explosions are vast and oddly colored, drinks have interesting side effects, and on rare occasions, everything goes exactly as planned. Less known, is what excellent engineers they are. In order to graduate to the field, a member of the Corps must first build themselves a prosthetic arm. Then, they must install a Chaos Core into it. The final step is replacing their own limb with the prosthetic.
You have a complete understanding of the Chaos Core, and all the functions it provides. In addition, any prosthetic limbs you have installed may be used for armblades even if you are not a Warforged. Furthermore, your mastery of the Core allows you to use it as an arcane focus. For any class features that require a wand, your prosthetic arm may be used instead.
Finally, you gain access to the Chaos Theory cantrip (Optional, powerful. Gain DM permission for the following:) and when you roll two ones while casting Chaos Theory, you may instantly cast the spell Chaos Bolt using your bonus action. This may be done a number of times a day equal to your primary casting modifier.
Spell List
For you, the spells on the Chaos Corps Spells table are added to the spell list of your spellcasting class. (If you are a multiclass character with multiple spell lists, these spells are added to all of them. The failed tooltip is the Chaos Theory cantrip.)
| Spell Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| Cantrip | [Tooltip Not Found], mending, shocking grasp |
| 1st | chaos bolt, shield, unseen servant |
| 2nd | blindness/deafness, mirror image, rope trick |
| 3rd | call lightning, elemental weapon, glyph of warding, hypnotic pattern |
| 4th | conjure minor elementals, divination, otiluke's resilient sphere |
| 5th | animate objects, conjure elemental, wall of force |
Your spells tend to be loud, flashy, explosive, or unexpected. Even when the effect is well documented. For example, when you summon an unseen servant, the servant might very well be visible in some manner.
If you use an arcane focus you may use your Chaos Core, specifically the limb that houses it. The limb must not be bound in any way.
The Chaos Bolt and Chaos Theory spells are favorites of Corps spellcasters because of their illuminating results.
Suggested Characteristics
Members of the Chaos Corps embody some combination of chaotic, frenetic energy with intellectual curiosity, in varying proportions. Some are committed to academic pursuits, and others just like to see how the dice fall.

It's possible you have focused so intently on one area of excitement, that it has warped your fundamental understanding of the Arcane.
Choose one during character creation: Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, or Thunder
Any time that you would cast a spell using any of the above types, instead of casting normally it converts to your chosen type of damage.
This is an optional feature, additionally, with your GM's approval, you may switch the type any time you gain an ASI.
