You come from a humble social rank, but you are destined for so much more...or at least you were. The people of your home village once regarded you as their champion, but something happened that made you a pariah in their eyes. Perhaps their disdain is justified, or perhaps there was a misunderstanding, or you were even framed, but regardless the reason, the perception remains: you have been shunned by those who once considered you their saviour.

You rose from humble origins into a local legend, but fell into disrepute, possibly as a result of a single disastrous event, a long string of them, or the rumour-mongering of others. It's entirely possible that your reputation is undeserved and the hearsay about you is completely slanderous, but word of mouth can be a virulent disease that's difficult to stop...especially if you have an enemy dedicated to ensuring your public disgrace.

Your reputation precedes you when you travel the lands around your home. While life may at times be difficult and you find yourself unwelcome in many places, depending on the nature of your Fall From Grace and the situation you find yourself in, your DM my determine you gain certain advantages. For example, if you are believed to have murdered someone, your DM could rule you have an advantage on intimidation checks against people who know about your reputation. If your fall was more humiliating in nature, they may determine you have an advantage on deception checks to appear more harmless than you actually are, or allow you to gain coin from strangers out of pity. If your fall came from the whims of a powerful individual or organisation, you may find succour and aid from people who have also suffered as a result of these individuals or groups.
Speak with your DM to determine how you can take advantage of your otherwise disreputable public standing.
Suggested Characteristics
Fallen Folk Heroes are tragic figures. Even if every waking second isn't determined by their fall from grace, it has shaped who they are and what their outlook towards life is. Sometimes they will be a sad clown, trying to conceal their loss under a veneer of forced and unerring optimism. Some will seek to redeem themselves. Sadly, more often then not they will end up bitter and resentful of how life has treated them, consumed by the memory of their fall. They are defined by how they cope with these memories, and what they seek to do about their reputation - if anything at all.
