Tinkerer Image

You are a proud innovator in all sorts of intricate technology. From small wooden toys and trinkets, to massive clockwork automatons, you have a knack for making things. While many of your inventions are often hailed as unstable, or even dangerous, you know that it must have been user error that turned your perfect creation into a death machine.

While not every Tinkerer has horror stories of inventions gone wrong, most do. Whether you made a clockwork monstrosity that turned against it's masters, or your inventions simply tend to malfunction as soon as they leave your shop, the reputation of your inventions most likely precedes you. And that is usually not a good thing.

Skill Proficiencies: History, Investigation
Tool Proficiencies: Tinker's Tools
Languages: One language of your choice.
Equipment: A set of tinker's tools, a branding iron used to burn your logo onto inventions, a pocket watch that, despite hours of tinkering, inexplicably turns counterclockwise, a set of traveler’s clothes, and a pouch containing 5 gp

Feature: Tinkering improvisation

With a few hours of time, and salvaged scrap material, you can make small, improvised traps and contraptions. Your DM will set a DC for your tinker's tools check based on how complicated the contraption is, and the amount of time and material at your disposal. On a success, the contraption works as intended. On a failure, the contraption fails in a way the DM decides.

Tinkerers can use tinker's tools to disarm traps and pick locks. Disarming a trap works the same as it would with thieves tools. For picking locks, the DC increases by 5. However, if the picking is successful, you can choose to leave the lock disassembled after you are done, or change the keying so the normal key no longer works for the lock.

Suggested Characteristics

Your bond is likely related to either making up for an invention that went wrong, or potentially a contract if your inventions tend to be more stable. Alternatively, your bond could simply be to the art of tinkering that you love, or potentially a mentor or apprentice.

Your ideal likely relates to either the pursuit of innovation or knowledge.
