Waterdhavian Noble Bastard Image

You are born of one of the great noble families of Waterdeep. Human families who jealously guard their privilege and place in the City of Splendors, Waterdhavian nobles have a reputation across Faerûn for being eccentric, spoiled, venal, and, above all else, rich.

Unfortunately upon your birth, it was all too clear of the infidelity that your mother had, as you were clearly only half human. As a result you are widely looked down upon by other nobles, but seen as still greater than that of the common folk (though more close relations may care about you, that is not guaranteed and Nobility at large will still see you as lesser).

Regardless of how much they care about you, on a whole your Noble family see you more as a tool than a true member of the family, your value to them is measured by how useful they are. As a result of this they are willing to exert some of their influence to ensured you are in a place in Waterdeep that you can be useful. That might be the City Watch, a guild, faction or somewhere more subtle. You are expected to work your way up whatever organization you are in (with a little help from the family every now and then), and serve the Family and the City well (in THAT order).

Work with your DM to come up with the family you are part of (there are around seventy-five lineages in Waterdeep, each with its own financial interests, specialties, and schemes) as well as what Organization you are a part of and what renown you are in it. Work with them to determine your goals, how your family plays into them and what you want to do with the Organization your family has planted you in. Do you want to rise up in your organization until you are a leader in it? Do you want to do it legitimately or accept the help of your family? Are you prepared to always put your family before your Compatriots, or do you want to rebel against your family's wishes?

Skill Proficiencies: Two of your choice
Languages: Two of your choice
Equipment: A set of fine clothes, a signet ring or brooch, Basic equipment from whatever organization in Waterdeep you are a member of (work with your DM, usually no more than 10gp), and a purse containing 15 gp

Feature: Tool of the House

As a member of your Noble house, you can always get food and lodging for yourself and your friends at any house property. Your Family will occasionally provide influence, money or equipment to ensure that you gain influence/power. This is often not free however, as in return you are expected to always put your family first, and they will occasionally require you to do services for them occasionally, often times utilizing the very gifts they have given you in the past. Beyond this, you have many old friends, mentors, and rivals in your house, and you may encounter one of them when you interact with a house business.

The degree to which you receive any of this assistance depends heavily on your houses standing, and how well you have complied with instructions or assisted them.

Your bond might be associated with your family alone, or it could be concerned with another noble house that sides with or opposes your own. Your ideal depends to some extent on how you view your role in the family, and how you intend to conduct yourself in the world at large as a representative of your house.
