You are a long way from the land where you were born.  You ended up in this strange land by either a voyage or a pilgrimage.  Perhaps you were possibly magically summoned to this land?  For you right now, there is some obstacle that keep you from returning to your homeland.  Unlike a crusader, refugee, or a diplomat, you are not here for your profession or to escape the horros of your homeland.  You either have very little desire to return to your homeland, or you do not know how to return to your homeland.  You are forced to make the best of this current situation.

Your character has been exposed to quite a few strange customs and is still learning how to blend into the populace of this new place.  You stumble socially from time to time, but this only makes others more fascinated about you and where you come from.  Your cultural background has you more experienced with it comes to communicating with strange new groups of people.  Perhaps someday you will learn a way to return to your homeland, but when that day comes would you want to leave?
