At a very young age, anywhere between birth and your pre-teens, you have lost your parents. They could be gone any number of reasons, but whatever the case, you had to live at either an orphanage with terrible people running it, or a family member such as an aunt or a grandfather who was abusive to you. You don't spend a long time there, however, as you eventually come across an ancient metallic dragon. Whether it was fate or luck that brought you two together, the dragon took you in as it's child. Maybe it did so that it could repay a debt it had with one of your ancestors from long ago, maybe it did so because it saw great potential for you and your future, or maybe it was to fill an empty void it had when it lost one of it's own hatchlings. You still visited the outside world on occasion, allowing you to interact with other humanoids, but you mostly stayed within the dragon's dwelling, for your safety as well as its own. It taught you and raised you much like it would it's own children, with it's unique interpretation of the world and its history.
Discuss with your DM to see whether or not if this dragon has any impact in the campaign and/or with the party. Maybe the dragon is known throughout the lands, coveted and hunted by those who seek to obtain powers and artifacts only it possesses, or maybe it occasionally calls you and your group through a form of magic to ask favors of you in exchange for some gold and magic items, knowing you are capable of doing things it cannot do without revealing itself or leaving its home unguarded for an extended period of time.

When you attempt to learn or recall a piece of information that is considered ancient in its nature, if you do not know that information, you can call upon your dragon guardian to ask about the information in question, provided you have good standing with it. This communication is usually done through some form of magic, like a telepathic bond only you and your dragon possess or a unique ritual where you write the question down in the air and send it to your dragon to a magical piece of parchment (Work with your DM on this).
Depending on the type of communication and what kind of information you are asking, a response from your dragon could be instant, like during a conversation through a magic mirror, to over a week, as it looks through it's piles of books and scrolls to find the requested info after receiving your letter you teleported. The response may come quicker if the information you seek is related to what the dragon is naturally interested in, such as a bronze dragon's love for sunken treasure in ships or a gold dragon's appetite for pearls and gems. Your DM might rule that the knowledge you seek is something your dragon possesses little to no information on, or that it only knows of a location nearby to find such information. Unearthing the deepest secrets of the multiverse can require an adventure or even a whole campaign.
Suggested Characteristics
Given that you were raised by an ancient being whose views are most likely very different than the rest of the world, you may have some trouble fitting in with the rest of the crowd. However, you may or may not be aware of this, and try your best to fit in anyway. Some dragon adopted children, however, may have a hard time with this, since they did have a rough childhood before they meet the dragon.
