Your first memories take place inside the walls of the Astylar Abbey Orphanage inside the tiny secluded mountain village of Astylar.
You have no memory of your heritage or a past before life at the orphanage. The priests and priestesses of the abbey are the only family you have ever known. You have been sheltered from the outside world, and all your life you have been taught the world is a dangerous and wild place full of peril around every corner, and it is no place for young orphans such as yourself.
The people in charge of your welfare seem to be overzealous about keeping you out of danger and they are extremely overprotective of you despite you being a lowly orphan in an obscure village.
- Skill Proficiencies: The priests and priestesses of the abbey maintain a wealth of books and scrolls for your instruction, and they have been more than happy throughout your tenure at the abbey to teach you anything you wish to learn, if only to ripple to calm surface of the still pool of monotony that is life in Astylar. Choose any skill.
- Tool Proficiencies: The priests and priestesses of the abbey maintain a wealth of books and scrolls for your instruction, and they have been more than happy throughout your tenure at the abbey to teach you anything you wish to learn, if only to ripple to calm surface of the still pool of monotony that is life in Astylar. Choose any one craft and any one hobby.
- Languages: The priests and priestesses of the abbey maintain a wealth of books and scrolls for your instruction, and they have been more than happy throughout your tenure at the abbey to teach you anything you wish to learn, if only to ripple to calm surface of the still pool of monotony that is life in Astylar. Choose any additional language.
- Equipment: You begin with a set of common clothing, a crude and very simple dagger, club, or sling, a small pouch containing a few copper coins. You also have a ragged trinket from your past, that you do not know the origin of, but it is absolutely priceless to you, as it is the only connection to who you may really be.
Although you have no memory other than your upbringing in the orphanage, you are not a blank slate. Certain mannerisms and behaviors persist, even though you don't remember their point of origin.
| d6 | Quirks and Impulses |
|---|---|
| 1 | Formal Attitude. You speak extremely formally at all times, especially to those you see as superiors. |
| 2 | Racist Disposition. For whatever reason, your stomach turns when you see certain races of people or certain types of creature. Maybe you were once wronged by one of them and your mind has marked them out as your enemy. |
| 3 | Forgiver. Even when you don't always fully believe it, you have a strong feeling that everyone should be given a second chance. This impulse may steer you right, but you may also develop a deep distrust of it as well. |
| 4 | Wanderlust. You feel a compulsion to travel. When in one place for too long, you grow physically restless. Over time, you might choose to curb this instinct. |
| 5 | Resignation. For some reason, you feel used to resigning yourself to failure or contentment. You don't have a natural urge to achieve or to change your circumstances, you just let the world be. |
| 6 | Religious Thinking. You find yourself easily convinced by religious figures and messages, you are quite the devout, although you have a fresh perspective on antiquated doctrines of your faith. |
The Abbey of Astylar priests are devout followers of a relatively new religion, The Trinity. The pantheon of the religion is simple, there are three High Deities: The Creator, the father of all things, The Recorder, The Judge, the determiner of all things, and The Garroter, the end of all things. The religion has spread quickly in lieu of the abandonment of the old gods. The priests have given you a minted ring of the symbol of the order, three interlocking rings in a triangle that will grant you safe passage or admittance into any Trinity Stronghold.
