A royal family can control the laws of the kingdom for the better or for the worse, or just be a tasteful part of culture.
Work with your DM to determine the story of your family, and why you have lost your royal status. Was your kingdom destroyed? Or maybe you were banished from the family? What role did the royal family play in society?
