Mage Artist Image

At a young age, the arts called to you, but not metaphorically. In whatever art you’d decided to take up, things seemed much more fantastical than your average artist. Work with your DM to see how your art works. Does it move on its own? Does it become real if one were to interact with it? Is it cursed to harm those who even lay eyes upon it? Choose your craft, or crafts, and let your imagination direct you down the path of the mage artist.

Skill Proficiencies: You are proficient in arcana and one other skill from the table.
Tool Proficiencies: Choose a tool and instrument that aligns best with your art form. You may choose one to be your primary focus, and you should talk with your DM about it beforehand.

Various Options for Art

These are simple suggestions and you are not limited to this list. Again, the limit of the Mage Artist is your imagination.

d8 Various Options for Art
1 A tattoo artist
2 A painter
3 A shoemaker
4 A jeweler
5 A woodcarver
6 A musician
7 A seamster or seamstress
8 A glassblower

Feature: Artist’s Specialty

When you create your form of art, it is affected how you and your DM decide it will. As stated previously, it can move, it can become real, it can do harm, and it can even cast magic when under certain conditions. Mage Artists are founded in the player’s imagination, and the limit is the stars.

Suggested Characteristics

These are not absolute, please feel free to make your own!

d8 Personality Trait
1 I’m very fond of my artworks/music. They’re more important than anything else.
2 My art/music is adored by all those who know of it.
3 I’m constantly covered in residue from my medium of choice, and sometimes people may find it dirty or gross.
4 I make an effort to cater my art/music to noble people. No doubt, someday I’ll be recognized for my work.
5 If I go too long without indulging in my preferred art form, I start to get anxious and jump at any opportunity to create my art.
6 An insult to my work is an insult to me. Any criticisms I receive are taken hard and to heart.
7 I reflect my mood in my artworks/music. If I’m upset, my work will be dull and gloomy, but if I’m in a good mood, my work will be as bubbly as I feel.
8 My only outlet is my art form. I’m rather quiet when I’m not making art/music, but if you catch me working, I could talk for hours.
d6 Ideal
1 Beauty. I must make beautiful art/music, and if I don’t, my work is a failure and must be thrown out and forgotten. I feel that way about the world. If something is not beautiful in it’s own way, it does not deserve to exist. (Any)
2 Freedom. I wish the world was as free as I feel when I’m making art/music and I’ll try to get others to see from my perspective. (Chaotic)
3 Assistance. My art is made to soothe and aid those who need it. If a work of mine is needed to help someone, I’ll happily oblige. (Good)
4 Fame. I know that my art will one day make me famous, and I will stop at nothing to make sure every living being knows of my art/music. Those who don’t deserve punishment. (Evil)
5 Happiness. I make my art/music to entertain others. My art/music should make other people smile, and if it can’t I’ll do anything to cheer them up. (Good)
6 Self Expression. I make my art to express my feelings, and not for the enjoyment of others. My medium is a reflection of myself, and the things I make with it affect the world based on how I feel. (Neutral)
d6 Bond
1 Any coin I make through my art goes towards aiding the family that I left at home.
2 My medium and I are essentially one in the same. I rely on it as much as it relies on me.
3 Everyone must know my name and what I do.
4 A very powerful person recognized my art, and now I’d do anything to gain approval from other people of their stature.
5 I have a lover that adored my art. All of what I do is to impress them, even without them even seeing/hearing it.
6 I make art/music for money.
d6 Flaw
1 I secretly think all other works of art or music are inferior to my own
2 It is very hard for me to trust someone who doesn’t like my art/music.
3 I often overwork myself to perfect my art/music, which hinders my sleep and leaves me neglecting my basic needs.
4 I’m ashamed of my art/music and must share it with as little people as possible.
5 I accidentally ruin a lot of things because of debris from my art getting all over them.
6 I’m determined to be the best in my form of art, and I’m a failure if I am not the best in the field when I pass away.
