You have spent most of your life guarding some sort of important place far from civilization, such as a border wall, important outpost, or a location of similar worth. There were few of you, but your position was of utmost importance. Most of what you know comes from living in that far-flung location.
- Skill Proficiencies: Choose either proficiency in Perception or Investigation.
- Tool Proficiencies: Choose a tool set or instrument, and a game.
- Languages: Choose one language that reflects the strangers that passed through your station.
- Equipment: You received some sort of token indicating your position, either a well-made cloak or a fine dagger.
Roll a d6 to determine where you were posted randomly, pick from the table, or make your own.
| d6 | Post Location |
|---|---|
| 1 | Border Wall |
| 2 | Wilderness Outpost |
| 3 | Mountain Pass |
| 4 | Road Checkpoint |
| 5 | Resource Fortification |
| 6 | Hidden Portal |
Because of the nature of your work, you had to learn how to be alert and watchful. You are able to easily find locations that will give you a good perspective on the area and have advantage on any Perception checks in those places.
You are also seasoned in judging intent, even from a distance. As long as you have a decent view of the target, you have advantage on any Insight checks made to see if the target is friendly or aggressive.
Suggested Characteristics
At one point or another you appreciated the under-credited and hard work of sentry duty, and probably were proud to be a part of it. Whether those thoughts have changed or not depends, but they still have lasting impressions.
