Wandering the world it's inevitable that one may come across a witch one way or another.
Most don't tend to be kind enough to take a weary and lost traveler under their wing, however, some may just consider it.
You happened to be one of those lucky wanderers. having spent a good while under this witch's care, you've picked up some interesting spells.
(talk to your DM about any custom spells you may have learnt from your mentor).
- Skill Proficiencies: You may choose two from: Medicine, Survival, Nature, Arcana and History, Insight.
- Tool Proficiencies: You may choose one from: Alchemist's supplies, Cook's utensils, Weaver's tools or an Herbalism kit.
- Languages: You may choose one exotic language of your choice except Undercommon.
- Equipment: Two Vials of Acid, Antitoxin and 3 Flasks with a liquid of purple, blue and green swirling colors that have a random effect when drunk or thrown.
Some witches are the traditional wicked old ladies that hex and curse those who do wrong by them.
Others focus their attention more to Alchemy and the brewing of toxins, not for evil, but to sate their curiosity.
Consider what kind of Witch you studied under.
d10 | Witch's Study |
---|---|
1 | You studied under a Witch of Nature. You have a fondness for wildlife and are often mistaken for a druid when others see you. One may consider this a benefit as many druids are friendly towards you due to your shared respect for nature and it's beauty. |
2 | You studied under a witch of Alchemy. you have a vested interest in the brewing of potions with various effects. Sometimes beneficial, but those are mostly on accident. While it may have been your fault for making it, you didn't exactly know that he was going to turn into a worm when he drank that last one. |
3 | You studied under a Witch of Records. All knowledge is of importance to you, no mater how insignificant it may seem. To aid this, you always carry at least a few note books and scribing tools with you. |
4 | You studied under a Witch of the People. Your mentor's legacy is well known, so much so in fact, that there is a known bounty on their head. As a student who carries their symbol, their beliefs ring true for you as well, "all power no matter how it is attained, should be used for the people", even if, sometimes, that leads to you being pursued by the guards for a while. |
5 | You studied under a Witch of Trickery. During your time with your mentor, many a day and night where spent, pulling webs out of your hair, or cowering in bed as you're sure you heard something out side your door that one time. Of course, this is all the doing of your mentors pranks, which you yourself now also enjoy pulling on others. |
6 | You studied under a Witch of Fortune. Many fortune tellers fake their acts by way of slight of hand, or telling fortunes so vague, they are likely to be true for anyone. But you, under your mentor's guidance, have achieved the ability to truly see the future, albeit clouded. |
7 | You studied under a Witch of Curses. From vile and horrific to, mild and potentially beneficial. You practice the art of Cursing and Hexing, and are quite knowledgeable about them. Some who you've come into contact with in the past have felt the chill of a curse creep up on them before. Whether they've come out unscathed, is for only you to know. |
8 | You studied under a Witch of Mourning. Your familiarity with the dead along with your complete and almost haunting acceptance of one's passing, tends to greatly unsettle those around you. Though there is a semblance of respect for your kind, as you are often contracted to perform funerals and other rituals for those who are no longer present. |
9 | You studied under a Witch of Devotion. Nights spent praying and Days spent worshipping. These are the practices you are most familiar with. Some of you are zealots, others appear no different from Clerics. But the one thing you all have in common, is that you follow the will of your god no matter what. |
10 | You studied under a Witch of Fiends. "Making deals with the unsavory is nothing more than a means to power", is what your mentor taught you. Whether you believe this or not, you know for a fact that what you have done, is irreversible save for a Wish spell. The deal you made is neigh unchangeable, and what you've gained from it may not even be worth what you gave up. This however is a fact you must now live with, lest you find some way to break the contract. |
Being one of the rare occasions a witch may take on an apprentice, you where given a trinket to signify your apprenticeship to your mentor.
This trinket would be recognized by other witches within your mentor's circle, making it easier to make contact with them.
It, however, may also cause opposing witches that recognize your mentor as an enemy, to see you as a possible threat.
Spell List
It's obvious that your mentor wouldn't be doing all the house work on their own, so they taught you some useful house hold skills.
It's also kind of a tradition for a witch to have a familiar, so that was taught too.
Spell Level | Spells |
---|---|
Cantrip | mage hand, mending |
1st | find familiar, unseen servant |
For you, the spells on the Witch's Apprentice Spells table are added to the spell list of your spellcasting class. (If you are a multiclass character with multiple spell lists, these spells are added to all of them.)
These spells do not count to your total prepared spells.
Suggested Characteristics
Having lived with a witch for a good while, it's inevitable that you'd end up picking up some of their quirks.
Things like picking up odd plants and animal parts for potion experiments. Or hexing those whom you have a mild dislike towards.
