You were the servant of some powerful lord or wealthy merchant. As you grew, your employer found more and more uses for you. You know how to clean, but you are also a trained valet, or a sommelier, or a cook. But more than that, you are useful because of the things you hear. No one knows gossip like the servants, and no one is better able to listen in on private conversations of nobles than someone serving them drinks.
You are one of the invisible; those above your station are practiced at ignoring you. Your employer, at least, knew how to use this to their advantage. But it's possible that others came to you as well, using you as one node in a larger spy network. Your master, your employer, always treated you well and respected you for your many talents.
But then something happened. Something bad, that left you unemployed and homeless. Your employer is dead, as is their family. Whether the manor burned down in an accident or they were the target of assassins (or both) should be worked out with the Dungeon Master. You can't go home again, because home is no longer there. And while you may still be loyal to the family, that means little with all of them (or most of them) dead.
- Skill Proficiencies: Deception, Stealth
- Tool Proficiencies: Cobbler's Tools, Cook's Utensils, Weaver's Tools, or Three-Dragon Ante Set
- Languages: One of your choice
- Equipment: A sign from your former employer, a set of dark-colored common clothes, a dice set, and an Explorer's Pack
You are practiced in the art of being nearby without being involved, of paying attention to the wants of others while avoiding any of their attention on you. Whenever you are in a high society location, you can easily fall back on your old habits. This allows you to move freely through the estate, so long as you are in areas where servants are permitted to be. You can also frequently get gossip and information from the other servants at the location.
Suggested Characteristics
Skilled at serving and listening, you tend not to want too much attention, just out of habit.
