Lord Huntsman Image

You are part of an organization that is both despised and respected for your ability to track, hunt, and locate information and individuals of special interests to your benefactors. While you may have acquired the noble bearing of the courts in which you serve and watch over, your sworn duty is to the hunt. Whether it is a shield of color, or that of the disavowed black coat, your duty above all is retrieval or death.

Skill Proficiencies: As a Lord Huntsman on the road, you've developed both your physical dexterity to react to situations, and your awareness as you travel.

You are proficient in one of the following: Athletics, Stealth, or Survival.

As well as one of the following: Insight, Perception, or Persuasion.

Tool Proficiencies: From your time on the road, you've spent many hours rigging and repairing armor and weapons as well as replacing them.

You are proficient with Smith's Tools, and are competent in the creation of ammunition such as arrows or crossbow bolts.

Languages: While you've wandered the roads and traded your services for coin, you've come across a number of cultures of which you've picked up a few words in.

Choose one language.

Equipment: You've had a bit of experience having adventured on your own to earn your Knighthood in your earlier career.

You carry a trophy earned from a previous quest (you may roll from the trinket table or make one up yourself), a set of traveling clothes, a belt pouch containing 15gp, and a tabard or banner emblazoned with your personal coat-of-arms  (you may roll from the coat of arms table or come up with one yourself).

The Code Redemptor

While it's unusual for any single order or house to maintain your services for long before travel and opportunity take you elsewhere, you've retained some aspects of your old life of knighthood while integrating new ones. For better or worse, the life of mercenary work has come to shape you into a grim warrior.

Feature: Hunstman's Reach

In your line of work, contracts and success come with a lot of experience and many more connections in an ever expanding network. You can always get food and lodging for your friends where your contracts (or House) hold most sway. When the house assigns you a mission, it will usually provide you with necessary supplies and transportation. Beyond this, you have many old friends, mentors, and rivals. You just might encounter one of them when you interact with one of these locales. The degree to which such acquaintances will be willing to help you out will depend on your current standing as a contractor.

Suggested Characteristics

Huntsmen are gruff travelers, often having the wear and tear of the work they do readily displayed by scars or jerry-rigged armor mods to maintain their functionality. They always wear black robes over crimson armor, and the crest of whichever house or benefactor currently holds their contract on a banner worn as a cloth draped around their waist. These Huntsmen also carry emblems typically associated to themselves or their ideas on a long tabard. If they do retain some token of their past service, it would be something similar to a signet ring.

Variant Lord Huntsman: Good Samaritan

Your years traveling the land in search of adventure have honed your ability to find opportunities to aid those in need. Whenever you are in a moderately sized settlement or larger your intuition tells you where there is someone who can provide you work that suits your skills, and also where to seek help if you need it. Furthermore, the many deeds you have done over the years have given you a look that makes non-hostile people feel more trusting towards you, and help provide you with lodging for your services or tales of adventure.

Variant Feature: Law of the Hunt

As a Huntsman, you have the authority to arrest the targets of your contract. In the absence of other authorities, you are authorized to pass judgment and even carry out sentencing. If you abuse this power, however, your superiors and benefactors might strip it from you, and you will in turn be hunted by your peers.
