A forager excels at finding useful plant material in the wild. They can find food where it appears nothing grows, find plants for healing or harm, find special woods for particular crafts, or favorable herbs for seasoning food. If it grows in the ground, the forager may have a use for it and collect it. A forager will often specialize in one type of plant material and will practice a craft that uses that material.
Foragers are always on the hunt and notice minute details in the natural world around them. Some foragers are generalists who explore, map, make notes of useful plant materials, and collect just about everything. Some foragers are specialists who focus on plants for a particular use whether it be healing, magic, poison, or crafting. Foraging is a solitary and physically demanding life. Some foragers are loners but usually need some people skills since they search for rare plants in foreign lands or have to interact with customers to sell their wares. You can usually spot a forager because they'll be loaded down with lumpy sacks packed full of their foraged materials.
As a Forager, you are in tune with others who focus on the natural world whether they be Druids, Rangers, and Elves and you can often count on them for resources and information.
- Skill Proficiencies: Choose two skills from the following: Investigation, Insight, Nature, Medicine, Perception, and Survival.
- Tool Proficiencies: Choose a tool proficiency: Alchemist supplies, Brewer's supplies, Cook's utensils, Herbalism kit, or Poisoner's kit.
- Languages: Choose one of the following languages: Draconic, Dwarvish, Elvish, Giant, Gnomish, Goblin, Halfling, Orc, Sylvan, Undercommon, Gith, or Minotaur.
- Equipment: Trowel, small scissors, vials, a sack, and a set of artisan's tools. Also traveler's clothes and 10gp.
You can search things in 1/2 the usual time and have an advantage when finding traps or secret doors because you are trained to notice minute details in the environment. In addition, you can find food and fresh water for yourself and up to five other people each day, provided that the land offers berries, small game, water, and so forth.
