The sweep of the razor, the snap of towel, the scent of perfumes over the subtle tang of blood and a honey sweet voice telling tales to excite the imagination and lighten the heart; the ancient arts of the Barber have been passed down through generations of deft hands and silver tongues. Barber Surgeons are beautician, doctor, dentist and counselor all in one. They treat the ill, sooth their hurts, calm their hearts and leave them fresh and clean. They are the only doctor most people will ever see. Their healing skills are highly sought after by villagers and nobles alike, as is their broad knowledge.
Barbers know a little bit about just about everything and just about everyone. They have a knack for getting people to open up, and they love collecting stories almost more than anything else. As often as not, Barbers get paid in goods, services or information rather than gold. And that’s just the way they like it. Always quick with a joke or story, and always willing to lend an ear, the Barber Surgeon loves life and lives for the experience, the excitement and the beauty of it.
- Skill Proficiencies: Medicine and Insight are your bread and butter.
- Tool Proficiencies: You have proficiency with Herbalist's Kit and Poisoner’s Kit (purely for curatives of course) which include your hair and skin care and dental supplies.
- Languages: Languages are important for your work. You gain 1 additional language of your choice.
- Equipment: You always have your tools on hand, your Barber Surgeon’s Kit which contain all your knives, razors, ointments, oils, lotions, perfumes, needles, threads, ribbons, waxes and everything else you might need to beautify, pamper, medicate and treat your clients.
Whatever it is, whoever it was, however it went, you’ve probably heard about it from someone somewhere. You may make a Persuasion, Intimidation or Deception check at a DC decided by the DM based on the obscurity of the information you’re seeking to gather. This takes anywhere from 1 to 5 hours during which you work on clients, wander the shops and bars and generally chat up, question and listen to people on the street. If successful, you garner some useful rumors or gossip about the subject at hand.
To use this feature you must be able to understand and be understood by at least a handful of people around you. And whether you are in a city, village or caravan, you must be able to socialize with 5 or more individuals.
