As a student of the Wise Man you gain a single spell slot above what your current spell slots known and you may only use this spell slot to cast spells at a lower level, Unless you have a 9th level spell slot then you may have a second one if your DM allows it.
Ex. If your highest spell slot is a 5th level one than you gain 6th level spell slot to cast lower level spells at. You may not learn 6th level spells this way.
