A lowly servant of a vassal, or a simple farmer trying to eek out a living from the soil. You are either poorly educated, or completely illiterate. No matter the reason you chose to become an adventurer, you are sure that you are starting from nothing.
- Skill Proficiencies: Choose one of; nature, animal handling or survival. These reflect your method of sustaining yourself through your (frankly miserable) everyday life.
- Tool Proficiencies: You gain proficiency with farming equipment, the hand axe and the quarterstaff
- Languages: You only know common, wether you know how to read or not is up to you.
- Equipment: You start with a quarterstaff, a dagger, a set of travelers clothes, a trinket rolled from the trinkets table, and a pouch containing your hard-earned life savings (5cp)
Hard living conditions and back-breaking labor are well known realities of everyday life for you, and as such you can relate to other commoners who have been through the same toiling as you have. You find it easy to get along with farmers and commoners, who may be more willing to lend you their aid than they would for other adventurers.
Suggested Characteristics
Peasants are usually focused on their own or their families’ survival, and thus rarely lend their time to existential or complex issues, being quite literally down-to-earth. Work with your DM to discuss who you served as a vassal for, as this can determine elements of roleplay for your character and their home village.
As a worker of the land serving a vassal, you must regularly donate back to your lord to ensure your land remains yours. This can be a sum of your coin or some of the product you produce.
Alternatively, you can choose to ignore this feature entirely as you have become an adventurer.
