Though you might have only recently arrived in civilized lands, you are no stranger to the values of cooperation and group effort when striving for supremacy. You learned these principles, and much more, as a member of a wilderness tribe.

Your former people live lives as hunter-gatherers, occupying small villages or moving to match the migration patterns of their primary game. They could be tundra nomads following herds of caribou, coastal seal hunters, stealthy jungle natives who primarily hunt birds and monkeys, lizardfolk in simple swamp villages, or orcs who boldly occupy the steppes along the borders of a civilized nation.

Your people have always tried to hold to their old ways. Tradition and taboo have kept them strong while the kingdoms of others have collapsed into chaos and ruin. You have broken a tradition, violated a taboo, or lost a power struggle, and you are no longer welcome in the tribe where you were born. Although you have been cast out, you still strongly identify with the culture and practices you were raised to follow. You will never truly be a member of any other culture or nation, but you will find a way to chart a path to follow that will fit yourself into the broader world.

Skill Proficiencies: Athletics, Survival
Tool Proficiencies: One type of musical instrument or artisan’s tools
Languages: One of your choice
Equipment: A hunting trap, a totemic token or set of tattoos marking your loyalty to your tribe, a set of traveler’s clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp

Feature: Tribal Solidarity (adapted from Uthgardt Tribe Member background)

You have an excellent knowledge of not only your tribe’s territory, but also the terrain and natural resources of the rest of the continent. You are familiar enough with any wilderness area that you find twice as much food and water as you normally would when you forage there.

Additionally, although you are no longer welcome in your own tribal lands, you can call upon the hospitality of your people in lands far from home. Others who self-identify as originating from the same broad culture group that you come from will be predisposed to be helpful. You might be an outcast, but in a land of untrustworthy foreigners, true friends are hard to find.
