You have forcibly and painfully in some way or another had your shape altered. Once, you looked completely different, and perhaps lead a very different life with it. Whether your memories of before you were transformed are intact is up to you. Perhaps you saw the face of the one who used some sort of ill will to make you this way and you want their head on a silver platter, or perhaps you paid for information and gained a possible lead on returning yourself to normal, or perhaps you have learned to embrace your life even if your appearance isn't ideal. Whatever the case, part of you still yearns to return to the old times.
- Skill Proficiencies: Choose two from among Arcana, Investigation, Religion, or Survival
- Languages: Choose two, one of which must be Abyssal, Celestial, Deep Speech, Draconic, Infernal, Primordial, Sylvan, or Undercommon
- Equipment: A monster hunter’s pack (containing a chest, a crowbar, a hammer, three wooden stakes, a holy symbol, a flask of holy water, a set of manacles, a steel mirror, a flask of oil, a tinderbox, and 3 torches), one trinket of special significance (choose one or roll on the Horror Trinkets table after this background), a set of common clothes, and 1 sp.
Bearer of the Curse
Prior to becoming an adventurer, your path in life fell upon its head when perhaps by a curse, or by some cruel joke, you were forcibly changed to become something else. Did you mess with the wrong fey, are you unknowingly being used as a pawn, or is there more at play here? Choose a method at which you were transformed, or roll one on the table below.

Bearer of the Curse |
1
An ill encounter with the fey left you physically and perhaps also mentally transformed, and you aren't sure why this was done to you.
2
The very circumstances of your birth are enough to sew the seeds of change. You were born under a star shining the colour of a corpse, and later in life you began to bare the anguish of the undead.
3
You were in the wrong place at the wrong time, perhaps witnessing something you shouldn't have. To keep you quiet, the assailants attempted to kill you. Your physical transformation is a result of their failed attempt.
4
Perhaps unknowingly to you, your transformation and subsequent life thereafter is all part of a sick devil's plot to gain information on the mortal realm.
5
Defending a loved one in a fight, you took a spell attack in their place. The physical changes are a result of this powerful spell.
6
As a child a curse was placed upon you, and as your life has progressed, the curse has taken a stronger and stronger hold upon you, so much as to change how you look drastically. If you ever met someone you knew before, they wouldn't recognize you.
7
When you were very young you were kidnapped and transformed by your kidnapper. You have no idea you were once something else, however there is a small piece of you that doesn't quite fit right, and you have never known why.
8
An accident by your own magic as a fledgling magic user resulted in your transformation.
9
Being the subject of scientific experimentation for many years of your life has left a physical toll on you. You now look different, and perhaps act different along with it.
10
Prior to your transformation, you were a terrible and violent person. To knock you down a peg, you were transformed to keep you from causing more trouble.
Feature: Your skin isn't your own
Though you may be reluctant to say you were once someone else, with a completely different appearance, you still get aches within your heart and soul that feel the very discomfort wearing skin and perhaps even fur that doesn't feel like yours can bestow. You might hide away from this fact, though others of the same race you now share may find you act strange or perhaps get the idea you lack confidence- which may be the case.
Suggested Characteristics
You have adapted to the changes that have resulted from your transformation. You are wiser, and perhaps not so bad a liar.
