Wildling Image

The company of people is a foreign experience to you. For the majority of your life, you have existed in the untamed wilds, far from the touch of civilization. Whether shipwrecked on a desert island, lost in the woods as a child or raised by a pack of wolves, you are more beast than person. However, there are benefits to not having the restraints of society, and this is the knowledge that only you can wield.

You’ve spent your life with nothing but raw instinct to keep you alive. Consider the circumstances that led to your isolation, and how they impacted you. You can roll on the following table to determine your situation during your time in the wild, or choose one that best fits your character.

d10 Origin
1 Shipwreck survivor
2 Raised by beasts

6 Failed druid

You bear a special kinship with the beasts of the wild. Whilst you cannot communicate complex messages, you can convey and understand basic messages and emotions with creatures with the type of beast.

Suggested Characteristics

Often considered bizarre and savage among civilized folk, wildlings have little understanding of the complexities of life in the cities. The instincts of survival, adaptation, and the natural world of which they are a part are the most important facts to most wildlings.

d8 Personality Trait
1 I often communicate with grunts and growls.
2 I watch over my friends as if they were a litter of newborn pups.
3 If one is not self reliant, they are doomed to fail.
4 I have a lesson for every situation, drawn from observing nature.
5 I place no stock in wealthy or well-mannered folk. Money and manners won’t save you from a hungry owlbear.
6 I’m always picking things up, absently fiddling with them, and sometimes accidentally breaking them.
7 I feel far more comfortable around animals than people.
8 Bathing and personal hygiene are pointless practices.
d6 Ideal
1 Survival. The wilds do not care for your life, and so you must do whatever is necessary to survive. (Chaotic)
2 Pack leader. I am the alpha of this group, and so it is my duty to protect them when they cannot protect themselves. (Good)
3 Adaptability. The laws of civilization are new to me, I must understand them like the laws of the wilds if I am to survive. (Lawful)
4 Apex predator. If these people are not stronger than me, then they are beneath me. (Evil)
5 Nature. The natural world is more important than all the constructs of civilization. (Neutral)
6 Animalistic instinct. I never depend on my equipment, my survival instincts are what have kept me alive all this time. (Any)
d6 Bond
1 The creatures that raised me are the most important thing in my life, even when they are far from me.
2 An injury to the unspoiled wilderness of my home is an injury to me.
3 I will bring terrible wrath down on the evildoers who destroyed my homeland.
4 Someone is responsible for my isolation, I will find them and the answers they hold.
5 Animals are like us more than people like to admit, and so we must treat them as we would ourselves.
6 Someone pulled me out of my isolation, I owe them for showing me the world beyond the wilds.
d6 Flaw
1 Animals don't tend to lie, and so I am inexperienced at identifying deception.
2 I blatantly ignore social etiquette and protocol, these are irrelevant in a survival situation.
3 I easily misunderstand metaphors and figures-of-speech, unless they are explained to me.
4 I am slow to trust members of other races, tribes, and societies.
5 Violence is my answer to almost any challenge.
6 Don’t expect me to save those who can’t save themselves. It is nature’s way that the strong thrive and the weak perish.
