You are one who wanders the world, seeking to learn all you can, especially loving being present at important occurences that are deserving of a story. All you really want in this world is to be there when things happen. You aren't quite a sage, since you seek stories quite a lot, but you still highly value knowledge, so you can understand the story playing out before you. THIS IS A ROLEPLAY-FOCUSED BACKGROUND, MEANT ONLY FOR CHARACTERS WHO WON'T STOP FRUSTRATING THE PARTY BY DOING SOMETHING STUPID IN THE SEARCH FOR KNOWLEDGE. NO RP = SCHOLAR OP.
- Skill Proficiencies: Since you know something about just about any thing, and always seek to know more, you have proficiency in Arcana, History, Investigation, Nature, Perception, and Religion. It's quite a lot, I know, but, if you want, you can gate each proficency behind some requirement. It makes realistic sense, too, especially if you hero just started out on their journey! Besides, this is being created with heavy roleplay in mind, meaning that, despite your usefulness, your character would be frustrating to no end . . .
- Languages: Due to your ceaseless studying, you have wound up learning Common, Dwarvish, Elvish, Giant, Gnomish, Goblin, Halfling, and Orc, and, being so linguistic, you can learn any language you don't know much more easily. Again, background is EXTREMLY designed for roleplay, so, despite seeming OP, it isn't if used as intended.
Anytime you make a roll of any kind in order to learn something new, you can add +2 to the roll, and you gain advantage on the roll as well. HOWEVER, if NOT doing one such roll, and you are not in combat, you do not care enough, and you gain disadvantage on the roll, as well as subtracting 1 from the roll.
Suggested Characteristics
In personality, Wandering Scholars are similar to Sages, except that they are obssesed with stories in particular, and thus, adventure to be present when these stories unfold, rather than to seek knowledge.
Contacts
You tend to make friends with just about anyone you meet, since you have stories appealing to just about any audience.

You care less for knowledge than most wandering scholars, seeing it only as a means to comprehend and explain the stroies you tell. However, instead of your life being dedicated to knowing as much as possible, including stories, your life is dedicated to obtaining and sharing as many tales as you can. Decide for yourself if they need be true.
Every long rest, write one long story about you exploits since the last one. This can only be done if it has been at least 24 hours since your last story writing and there has been at least one combat encounter in that time (to keep the story exciting). You can tell this story to anyone or sell them a copy of the book in order to let them understand what happened in that period of time. If you tell them the story, it will take 1 hour. If you sell it to them, the DM can decide how long it takes them to read it. You can decide how much to try to sell it for, and the DM decides if the NPC accepts the offer. During a short rest, you can write a short story to communicate any message you choose, disguised or no. This story does not neccesarily have to be about your exploits, and you can also spend 2 hours while walking to write one, though this with reduce your passive perception by 2. The rules of selling and telling the story are the same as that of a long story.
