This is not your first life. Not so long ago - years, months perhaps just days - you had a very different body and face. You might well have been a different race, sex or both in your original form. Then you died only to return to life moments later thanks to someone casting the Reincarnation spell on your remains (this may even have been yourself if you are a Wild Magic Sorcerer whose magic surged seconds before they were slain.)
Now everything has changed and nothing has changed. Your memory and personality are still intact but strangers react to you differently, and former friends (and enemies!) might pass you by on the street without a second glance. If you look like a different race others might assume a familiarity you don't have. To say nothing of the unfamiliarity of your new body itself! It's certainly better than being dead but this definitely will take some adjusting...

| d8 | Circumstances of Reincarnation |
|---|---|
| 1 | Killed in pitched battle with your enemies. |
| 2 | Killed in a freak accident. |
| 3 | Publicly executed. |
| 4 | Witnessed a crime and slain by the perpetrator. |
| 5 | Died of natural causes. |
| 6 | Slain by wild animals. |
| 7 | Died while trying to rescue a comrade. |
| 8 | Murdered under mysterious circumstances - and you don't know the identity of the killer. |
Being reincarnated comes with many advantages and disadvantages and being effectively unrecognisable is a bit of both. Short of outright telling people who you are or their being present for your rebirth there is a very good chance even your greatest rivals or enemies will have no idea who you are. If you have been a heroic individual who rebelled against a corrupt and tyrannical king or conversely have been a shameless charlatan no bounty hunter or assassin will look at a wanted poster with your old face on it, look at your new face and make the connection.
Thanks to your previous life you know something about significant individuals that a regular member of the public would not. This may be a perfectly benign 'secret' that might be socially useful ("the Royal Chamberlain has a weakness for honeyed cakes") or it may be more significant and dark ("I was there the night the Baroness poisoned her sister".) Work with your DM to determine who and what you might have known from your past life.
Suggested Characteristics
| d8 | Personality Trait |
|---|---|
| 1 | I constantly use body language that fit my old form well but looks peculiar or distinctive in my new identity. |
| 2 | I am going under a new name but occasionally forget and glance around when addressed by that name. |
| 3 | I cling to my old style of clothing and costume even if they look out of place in my current form. |
| 4 | I keep a journal of my new experiences in this life and write in it obsessively. |
| 5 | I find my tastes in food and drink have changed completely. Once favoured dishes now turn my stomach and what I'd once have turned my nose up looks mouth-watering. |
| 6 | I am modelling my new style and bearing on a famous individual of my current race or sex I've always admired. |
| 7 | I enjoy gallows humour. Having literally died and come back the worst has already happened to me. |
| 8 | I avoid mirrors and other reflective surfaces. Seeing my new face is still too disorientating. |
| d6 | Ideal |
|---|---|
| 1 | Freedom. I've been freed from all the old responsibilities of my old life and am determined to live my new life on my own terms. (Chaotic) |
| 2 | Philosophical. I have experienced a second chance. This body is not what I asked for but perhaps the gods or fate have sent me a sign. (Neutral) |
| 3 | Afflicted. I long for my old body and see my new form as a sham. I'm searching for a way to become the old 'me'. (Any) |
| 4 | Pragmatic. New face and form or not I'm still the same person and my goals and beliefs haven't changed. (Any) |
| 5 | Adaptability. It's a strange turn my life has taken but I'm adjusting and finding as much to like as dislike in my new body. (Any) |
| 6 | Vengeful. Reincarnated or not it is someone's fault I died. I'll get my revenge and they'll never see me coming (Evil) |
| d6 | Bond |
|---|---|
| 1 | I was an adventurer and though my life has taken a different turn and I'm no longer with that group I'd drop everything to go to help of a comrade from the old days. |
| 2 | However I feel about my reincarnation I owe everything to the kindly druid who brought me back. I'll repay that debt someday. |
| 3 | I had a lover in my old life I have not been in contact with since my reincarnation. My feelings remain but I fear they would not accept me as I am now. |
| 4 | In my first life I amassed a great deal of wealth or a position of privilege that I cannot easily claim in my new form. It is still out there though. |
| 5 | My old name is famous - or infamous - and I often hear it unwittingly mentioned in my presence. |
| 6 | I trust only a few people with the truth about myself and who I was. |
| d6 | Flaw |
|---|---|
| 1 | I think I am slowly beginning to forget my old life. |
| 2 | I have no fear of death and risk my life recklessly. I've been through it once before. |
| 3 | I consider my original identity a failure and my new life such an improvement I go out of my way to trash my old self's 'legacy'. |
| 4 | I have a serious and vocal grudge against the gods for the circumstances of my death and return. |
| 5 | I've never been able to resist a pretty face and my current form has added a lot of new complications to an already complicated romantic life... |
| 6 | Deep down I think the only ones who might really understand me are those who've been reincarnated. |
