A tomb built into a mountain slowly cracks open, as the doors move aside. A figure emerges from the tomb, revealing themselves to be an ancient race, long since extinct.
From a house long since abandoned, a human steps outside to a world 1000 years older than she last saw it.
As an ancient, you were sealed away at a young age and put into a deep slumber for many years. The duration of these spells can range from 10 to 10000 years, but whenever they end, the target of the spell awakens to a world much different from the one they last saw. In your case, aging ceased entirely for you while in stasis, and now any traces of your past life do not matter.
However, being locked away for so long does come with some benefits, including a clean slate for you to build upon.

You could have been frozen in time like this for a multitude of reasons. Choose or randomly determine the origin of your imprisonment.
d6 | Imprisoned Origin |
---|---|
1 | I was deemed too dangerous, whether because of knowledge or strength, and was locked away because of it. |
2 | I had important knowledge that had to be preserved to the future, and as such as placed in stasis as a messenger. |
3 | My town or race was dying out, and I was chosen to preserve our lineage. |
4 | Some famous wizard or sorcerer or something invented a new spell, and I was chosen as a test subject. |
5 | An evil sorcerer kidnapped me, and I was placed in stasis to be used as a test subject later. A group of heroes slew him and freed me, but not before he could experiment on me. |
6 | As a criminal, the king had me frozen in time to be dealt with later. By some chance, I was forgotten about, and managed to wake myself up and escape. |
Due to you being sealed away for many years, all past record and documentation of you have been destroyed. Because of this, you have a heightened measure of trust with people. This makes them more likely to trust you, whether it be when attempting to persuade them or when lying through your teeth. Additionally, scholars and other people who hear of your imprisonment are likely to be extremely interested. You could secure an audience with a famous figure if they are interested in your story.
