People call you a lot of things: a dungeon delver, a dirty thief, a naïve sod who thinks they're lucky enough to find treasure. You, however, know your true name: a treasure hunter. You brave life-threatening conditions just to get your hands on untold riches, or at least a few trinkets you can pawn off to the highest bidder. But, you still have yet to find the one treasure you ache to obtain. It's not just a want anymore to have it, it's a need. You'd sell your mortal soul to acquire that treasure, or maybe just go on a lengthy adventure with some unassuming folks to steal it from under their noses. Who cares how you'll loot it, as long as you get the treasure, everything you have done so far would've been worth it.
- Skill Proficiencies: Investigation, Sleight of Hand
- Tool Proficiencies: Cartographer's Tools, Thieves' Tools
- Equipment: A climber's kit, a compass, a trinket from one of your past heists, a crowbar, a set of traveler's clothes, and a pouch containing 15 gp
Feature: A Scavenger's Intuition
Your experience in traversing dangerous places for treasure has led you to be exceptionally keen. When adventuring in a potentially hazardous area, you may roll an investigation skill check with advantage to scout out for traps and other devious devices. You must roll an 17 or higher to succeed this role, resulting in any trap in the area being revealed. However, due to your cockiness from past heists, if you fail this roll, you will wholeheartedly believe the area is completely safe rather than still being potentially dangerous. This feature is very much high risk, high reward: when successful, you can prevent the whole party from falling into a life-threatening trap, but when failed, you could lead your party into their doom unknowingly.
Suggested Characteristics
Treasure hunters will fight tooth and nail to obtain the riches they believe they deserve. They are mainly motivated by their desire to loot as much treasure as possible, in hopes that they can lead a luxurious lifestyle further down the line. This craving for treasure affects their mannerisms and ideals. Your character might enjoy the thrill of braving life-threatening environments for that sweet reward. Their flaws could be an unhealthy fixation on whatever money they carry, potentially to the point of paranoia, or an inflated sense of self due to their previous successes. An ideal will most certainly be to swindle that one treasure they've always wanted; this will be the treasure to complete their career of a treasure hunter and leave them satisfied, and they don't care if they have to use others to get what they want.
