Hidden In Plain Sight Image
For whatever reason, you've needed to hide your identity in order to survive. Maybe you have powerful enemies, bad luck, or you're just someone who isn't wanted where you are; regardless, you've created a new identity and appearance that allow you to live your new life safely.

Skill Proficiencies: Deception, and one of the following: Athletics, Persuasion, Stealth, or Survival
Tool Proficiencies: Disguise kit, Forgery kit
Equipment: A set of common clothes with a hooded cloak, a disguise kit, one memento from your former life, and a pouch containing 15 gp

Cause for Hiding

There's a reason you're doing this--no one completely reinvents themselves for no cause. Choose this reason, or roll on the table below.

d4 Cause for Hiding
1 You are wanted for a crime, whether or not you committed it
2 The place where you are living is hostile to you, because of some visible feature you possess
3 You are the last member of a dying group, and someone wants to make sure it stays that way
4 You offended someone powerful, and they want to see you pay dearly

Feature: False Identity

You have created a second identity that includes documentation, established acquaintances, and disguises that allow you to assume that persona. Additionally, you can forge documents including official papers and personal letters, as long as you have seen an example of the kind of document or the handwriting you are trying to copy.

Suggested Characteristics

Completely changing your identity is a drastic choice, and it has profound effects on a character who chooses to do it. Pretending to be someone you are not requires dedication and preparation, which others might see as paranoia, and the knowledge that you might have to give up everything you've built for yourself at the drop of a hat in order to survive.

d8 Personality Trait
1 I always have a plan for what to do when things go wrong.
2 I have to keep moving. If I stay in one place for too long, they'll find me.
3 The first thing I do in a new place is find the best way out--and then a second and third.
4 The best thing to do when trouble rears its head is to hide.
5 I lie about almost everything, even when there’s no good reason to.
6 I don't make friends easily. I'll only have to leave them behind.
7 I keep multiple holy symbols on me and invoke whatever deity might come in useful at any given moment.
8 I hoard my gold. It's easier to run with coins rather than things.
d6 Ideal
1 Protection. No one should have to go through something like I did. (Lawful)
2 Distrust. The law is a tool of those in power. It can't be trusted to keep you safe. (Chaotic)
3 Secretive: I am in the habit of not talking about myself. My business is none of yours. (Any)
4 Selfishness. You have to look out for yourself before anyone else. It's the only way to survive. (Evil)
5 Friendship. If you can find people who will stuck with you when the truth comes out, then they're worth everything. (Good)
6 Aspiration. My life can be more than this. (Any)
d6 Bond
1 I'm guilty of a terrible crime that can never be redeemed.
2 This is the only thing I have left from my old life. I don't know what I'll do if I lose it.
3 My life is the only thing they didn't take from me. I'll never let anyone threaten it again.
4 I come from a noble family, and one day I’ll reclaim my lands and title from those who stole them from me.
5 Someone risked everything to help me escape. I have to find some way to repay them.
6 Someone discovered the truth about me, but they haven't done anything--yet.
d6 Flaw
1 If things look like they're going bad, I'll cut and run.
2 I've told so many lies that I can't keep track of them anymore.
3 It would be so nice to just stop hiding...
4 I can never really trust anyone else.
5 The injustice of it all eats at me, and sometimes I lash out because of it.
6 When the nightmares get to be too much, I'll do something--anything--to dull the pain.
