World Hopper Image

Throughout your adventuring life, you were never able to stick in one place at a time...or heck even one dimension. No matter if its through freak accidents, a gadget or magical trinket, or through your bloodline, you've been able to transport yourself to different worlds, taking in their sights and learning all about them before moving on to the next.

When you choose this background, work with your DM to determine how you ended up in the setting that your campaign is in, where you are from, and what kind of experiences you had during your dimension hopping travels. Did you purposefully do it to pursue a life of adventure? Were you forced to leave your homeland as a way to protect yourself or everyone else? Or were you dragged into this lifestyle unwillingly, trying to find what method will bring you home?

Specialty

Some sort of decision, yours or not, led you onto this world-bending adventure. Roll a d8 or choose from the table the type of event that turned you into what you are today.

d8 Specialty
1 You left on your own, using a trinket or device to travel.
2 Your family was in grave danger, so they whisked you away with a charm for your safety.
3 An alchemy or science experiment backfired horribly, trapping you into the multiverse.
4 A spell was cast on you as a method to eliminate you, however all it did was make you travel between realms.
5 You accidentally misused a magical object, whisking you away into faraway lands.
6 You randomly found a source of world hopping in your own realm, and led yourself into your new life.
7 Your family could always travel between worlds; you just now recently discovered that you can too.
8 In the future, traveling time and space was always a thing. However, it backfired and you can't return home.

Feature: Well-ventured

You have explored many different locations, worlds and even dimensions. No matter what happened in each, they usually left some sort of lasting story to tell. When you are in a public place (such as a tavern), you can use your stories to entertain, persuade, or intimidate others. Additionally, you can potentially roll for a Performance check as a way to excite or educate others, and maybe even get tips or important information from them.

Suggested Characteristics

The wacky and unusual circumstances your world hopping led you to influences your outlook on the worlds you visit a lot, shaping your ideals, creating strong bonds with others from distant lands, and allows for a sense of wonder and awe, anxiously waiting for the next unique event to happen.
