Not everyone is born into royalty or skilled enough to become a skilled worker. Some are just commonfolk, becoming farmers, ranchers, and as for the less fortunate, beggars. Though not the poorest of the poor, peasants have to work hard to barely scrape by.
Because of their previous life before the adventure they embarked on, peasants are great at bargaining and finding the best deals. When in a town and looking for or buying items, adventurers with the peasant background are often capable of striking significant deals.

Some of the more hardworking peasants are often recruited into manorialism, (as defined by Merriam-Webster) "a system of economic, social, and political organization based on the medieval manor in which a lord enjoyed a variety of rights over land and tenants."
Peasants who are in a society of manorialism have worked for a wealthy family. This being said, these hard workers may be able to contact the family who ran the manor and possibly get favors in exchange for quests.
