Due to your lack of guild connections, you have been forced to develop a sense of where or how to best acquire the materials needed for your work. As long as you are at least fairly familiar with the area you are in, you can determine where you may find any material that can be worked with an artisan's tool you are proficient with, be that by finding a merchant willing to negotiate with a freelance artisan, or by gathering the material yourself. Note that not all areas will have a means of acquiring some materials, and just because you can find a way to acquire them, that does not mean it will be easy to do so.
