Life was likely peaceful and pleasant for you not so long ago. Your days were spent tilling a farm, reading books under the noon sun, or perhaps sneaking into a lady's bedroom late at night once her family was asleep. But this was all ripped from you. Without warning, grave horrors were inflicted upon your home. Buildings destroyed... lives stolen... dreams crushed. But the worst part of it all, was when you woke up. Alone.
From that point on, you were yanked away from the life you once knew and thrusted into the life of a wanderer. Perhaps you are seeking a new home, searching for distant family, or perhaps you desire something darker. Revenge against those that took what you had. Perhaps the power you witnessed awoke a desire for the same within you. Or maybe you are just running away. Unable to lay eyes upon the ashes for even a moment further, you left everything behind and never looked back.
Work with your DM about your life before and what you know about what happened there, if there might be someone else who was involved that remains alive, and if this is something your character intends to confront or flee.
- Skill Proficiencies: Medicine or Survival
- Tool Proficiencies: Choose one set of Artisan's Tools and a Gaming Set or a Musical Instrument.
- Equipment: A bloodied purse containing a single gold piece, a memento of your hometown, a clue left behind by the attackers, and a scroll of a 1st level spell you discovered in the wreckage.
You come off as plain and ordinary when you choose. You blend in to the average populace, seeming as no one special. So long as you are not openly displaying magical equipment/armor beyond a typical peasants arms, you are adept at avoiding attention. You have advantage on Stealth check when blending in to a crowd of people. In addition, you do not seem suspicious when asking questions of ordinary townsfolk as you give off the air of wanting a good tale to tell as all peasants do.
Suggested Characteristics
The sudden upheaval of your life has strongly affected you. The personality you display to others is likely a cover for the real you hiding underneath. A loud, boisterous individual might be hiding someone hurting underneath or a quiet, timid persona may be covering for your difficulty becoming attached to someone new.
