Companion

A companion displays great dignity, civility and compassion. They are considered artists of etiquette and enjoy a highly social standing. They are often hired as a source of entertainment, performing intricate dances or singing rich melodies for noble courts and banquet halls. They are frequently hired as escorts by young nobles who need assistance preparing for and attending court or other stressful social gatherings.

To call a companion a prostitute would be an insult. Would you also call a donkey a horse? There is considerable ritual and ceremony surrounding their services, which extend beyond sex to nurturing a psychological, spiritual, physical, and emotional well being in their clients. They choose their own clients for sex work, and to be chosen by one is tremendous status symbol, as those chosen must be both wealthy enough to maintain a companion's often lavish lifestyle, and attractive enough to draw one's attention.
