You have always been good at making things - but never very good at acquiring the parts for them - for a good deal of your life you've made due with spare parts from unrelated objects and crafting things from the remains of other less useful objects. You know how to repair the broken, rejuvenate the worn, improve an items efficiency, or coax it into doing things the designers hadn't intended.
- Skill Proficiencies: Pick two from: Insight, Investigation, Sleight of Hand, or Survival
- Tool Proficiencies: Two of your choice
- Equipment: A sketchbook filled with random blueprints and diagrams, a small knife with interchangeable blades, a set of common clothes, one tool of your choice, and 5 gp
What led you to make things out of cast offs and scrap? Why have you decided to trade in your have finished projects and barely functional tools to answer the call of adventure?
Using your intuitive grasp of the inner workings and underlying principles of mechanics and physics you know how to perform amazing, if only temporary, technical feats that include but are not limited to the following:
- Jury rig a broken device to work once more.
- Tweak an existing device to function at a higher quality.
- Temporarily coax extra performance from tools or vehicles, often resulting in the complete burnout of critical components afterwards.
- Improvise a one-shot device or weapon from random scraps or miscellaneous components.
- Devise an impromptu means to bypass a security measure, such as a tripwire or pressure plate.
Suggested Characteristics
Some jury riggers are well suited to crowds and showing off their creations, whereas others seek to seclude themselves in labs or workshops to tinker. Whether they share their creations or horde them, they are shaped by the tools of their trade and several are driven mad by the temporary nature of their creations.
