You have delved into the other side of mankind, bathing yourself through all kinds of horrors. Soon, you had arisen from the depths of darkness, being reborn as a creature of evil. The path of being a monster of darkness is not an easy one, as you will be both feared and hated by most people, common or noble. Why you decided to bathed in the darkness is another question; did you attempt to inherit a family legacy? Work hard to obtain the statues of evil from nothing? Or did you throw aside your good nature and heroic self in order to overcome some kind of unknowable evil? Over the years, you have come to understand wealth, power, and the terror you possess as a true Lord of Darkness. Due to the nature of how you gained your power, you might wield significant influence over the criminal underworld. You see the world in a simple black and white, and seek to claim that what you want, regardless of who or what gets in your way
- Skill Proficiencies: Choose two from the following: Deception[skill], Insight[skill], Intimidation[skill], Persuasion[skill], or Religion[skill].
- Tool Proficiencies: Either Forgery Kit or Thieves' Tools.
- Languages: Choose any one language.
- Equipment: A set of fine clothes, a signet ring, one evil/cursed trinket and a satchel containing 15 gp.
Due to the darkness that seems to seep out of you, the common folk are frightened of you. Few will try to actively get in your way, but many will avoid you. Armed guards or militia are more likely to be hostile towards you. Often times, nobility and high-ranking elites will not even bother to stomach you in courts. Not only that, but depending on how you get your power, those who seek power in a similar way will know of you, and often will seek to help you.
Discuss with your DM who and what your character would know, as well as what kind of people would look up to him as something of an idol of even a deity.
Suggested Characteristics
A Lord of Darkness almost always see themselves as the villain. They desire rules of absolution and are willing to attempt and sacrifice anything to achieve their goals. Whether that is to take over a country, or simply seek revenge against those that have wronged them before. While some Lords of Evil may appear to be morally gray or even good, it is simply a means to an end.
