For better or worse, traveling from place to place has taken up a significant portion of your life. You might have been born into the lifestyle of a vagabond, or perhaps you originally had another life somewhere before, but for some reason or another you find yourself unable to call any place you encounter a true home.

If you pick this background, collaborate with the DM to determine your contacts you have encountered in your travels in addition to any character contacts you might have from before your travels. Did you used to have a family, memories from a time where you were not constantly moving around or are your oldest memories of this lifestyle? While traveling, were you alone or were there others with you?

 

 
Skill Proficiencies: You gain one skill proficiency of your choice and the Survival skill.
Tool Proficiencies: You gain proficiency with your choice of any one artisan tool, gaming set, or musical instrument.
Languages: You gain proficiency with one language of your choice.
Equipment: An artisan tool or gaming set or musical instrument of your choice, an Explorer's Pack, a set of traveler's clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp
 
Reason

Whether it was your own choice, fault, or the result of another's action, you have a reason for becoming a vagabond. Determine your own reason or you may choose from the options in the table below to for your reason, you may instead roll 1d8 for an automatic selection:

d8 Reason
1 You are constantly being hunted or pursued and cannot remain in the same area for long.
2 After being cursed, you were forced away from your original lifestyle.
3 You were raised by a nomadic people and have never known another way of living.
4 You have been exiled, either your own chose or it was imposed upon you.
5 There exists an important quest you must accomplish.
6 You are a missionary, determined to spread word of your faith.
7 You deserted something or someone important and now you live in shame.
8 You have arrived from another plane; you now roam these unfamiliar lands.
 
Feature: The Wanderer

You're the kind to never settle down, you've come remember what you see as you roam around, you the kind that's experienced roaming around cause you're the wanderer. If you see a geological, environmental, or other discernable features that you've encountered, you remember them if you later need to recall the feature at a later point. This has enabled you to have an unrivalled sense of direction when moving through an area you're familiar with as well as being able to remember specific designs or symbols you have examined.

A life of constant movement has shaped who you are, never staying anywhere long, the few encounters you've had with others define your perceptions for all future encounters you will have.
