This is a bonus to an already chosen backstory, which provides you with additional proficiencies and equipment. The Fraud uses this backstory as a front for a scheme, which might not be necessarily illegal, but definitely less moral than the character they portray themselves as.
- Skill Proficiencies: you may replace a skill granted by your first backstory with deception, persuasion, or intimidation.
- Tool Proficiencies: you are proficient with two of the tools that are available with this backstory
- Languages: you can understand thieves' cant, but properly speaking and writing it requires an intelligence check
- Equipment: you have an additional 2x1d6 gold in addition to your backstory's gold. you may have one tool of your choice from a poisoner's kit, a disguise kit, a forger's kit, and thieves' tools
1: impersonation/ identity theft
2: larceny
3: extortion/ influence peddling
4: fraud/ money laundry
5: counterfeiting
6: corruption/ bribery
7: smuggling
8: assassination
you can attempt an investigation check in social interactions or exploring an establishment (town, temple, store, etc.) to find a place to run a scheme. This may vary from simply tipping the scales in a gambling match to finding weak points to infiltrate and topple an organization. The scale and difficulty of the scheme affects the amount of time required for the investigation, as well as the dc for finding such an opening. you have advantage on the check if it requires the skills, personality, or reputation of your original backstory (or scheme associated with it).
