Protector Image

You have svor to protect this land before you. You as an protector has a duty to fight for justice and freedom, so when you sett out on your long adventure you will do whats right for the world. With your fellow protectors you shall protect the world from evil.

Disclaimer: I have hade this bakgrund very flexible and maybe a bit to powerful. I have made this for story and if their is a big undergrund organisation this can be put in place of any of it. Check with your DM to implement the story around the background. Otherwise have a fun game!

 
Skill Proficiencies: Investigation, Perception, Survival
Tool Proficiencies: One type of tools and One type of instrument or One type of Gaming set
Equipment: A Emblem, a Crystal or a Signet Ring or a Amulet. A set of dark common clothes including a hood, a pair of boots. A Book, Ink Pen, Ink (1 ounce bottle), Paper (one sheet) (5). A wildlife survival backpack with 5 gp or a urban survival pack with 20 gp. A dagger and a simple weapon.
 
Protector assignment

As a Protector you are supposed to guard the world from evil and protect the the innocent. But you could protects the world several ways, one might be to hunt down people that pose a threat to the world, or you as a watcher are making sure that a part of the world is safe, or you are just a lonely messenger that delivers orders to other protectors. That dose not mean that you can only do one thing or this can change but at the end of the day its what you do best.

Here are some quick explanations on how i think the background is intended.

Hunters are the assassins of the Protectors. Mostly keeping to the shadows and hunting down the people and the beasts that threatens the world. Good hunting.

Watchers keeps certain areas safe and are responsible for coordinating and protecting city's and provinces from evil, all while blending in and keeping a low profile.

Enforcers are the soldiers of the protectors. Their missions usually involves fighting a lot of enemies, their for the an enforcer usually has a lot of previous battle experience.

An Informer is a spy that is mean to be seen but not heard. Their primary mission is to collect information that help the protectors. May you not be caught.

Messengers are the ones that travels thru the world to deliver messengers. They often travel thru contested and dangerous territories, so they must be quick on their feet.

The Elders are often the oldest and the most experienced of the protectors. Their mission is to command the protectors or an attachment of them. Let their wisdom guide them.

Forger is one of the quartermasters for the protectors and is responsible for the equipment and supplies. May this weapon serve you honorably in battle.

The Record-keepers are the ones that keep track and document all information that they can get their hands on, they are like scribes. So common their is always more to learn.

Feature: Protectors network

In the towns and city's you might find a member of the protectors, this could be anyone but they can if you so chose, they can relay a message. This message could be anything, like asking someone for information or asking for a meeting. If you want a response you have to give a location and time, but if you don´t have an exact time you can arrange for the message to be left at another protector until you can collect it, this is barring you know someone their that can receive the message. As a wise man once said, having allies is a great power.

 
Suggested Characteristics

A protector could be anyone, it could be a simple farmer or a dishonest knight. So you might be a simple man that just want to do the right thing, or a thief that´s trying to redeem himself. So you might have a black spot or two but what you have done might haunt you, but its ultimately what you do now that matters the most.

1 When I see something valuable, I can’t think about anything but how to steal it.

5 I turn tail and run when things look bad.
6 An innocent person is in prison for a crime that I committed. I’m okay with that.
 
Variant Protector: Respect for the Protectors

The name of the Protectors is well known, so if you show that you are an Protector you can requisition supplies, weapons or tools for your own use. This may only work on objects of low value and may not work on high value, but you can maybe convince them to let their item go for free or for a price. You are thou expected to return these items after you have used them. You may take but you must always give back what you owe.
