Chiyodan's Pirate Captain Image

You’ve been a terror on the seas for years. In that time, you faced down mighty storms, monsters of the deep, and those who wanted to sink your craft to the bottomless depths, all to clench your fists around your one true love - someone else’s property. Discuss the crimes committed on the ship you previously owned with your Dungeon Master. Did you peddle stolen goods, attack any vessel in your path, or take to port to rob its citizens? Is it widely traveled? Is it still sailing, or is it missing and presumed lost with all hands? Is your “shore leave” temporary, or permanent? How did you run your ship? How large was your crew? Did you rule with an iron fist, or was there chaos aboard? Who was your First Mate and your Bosun? Will you return and take your place as captain, or will you have to fight to reclaim it?

Skill Proficiencies: Perception, Persuasion
Tool Proficiencies: Thieves’ tools or Navigator’s tools, vehicles (water)
Equipment: Silk rope (50ft), a lucky charm such as a rabbit’s foot or a small stone with a hole in the center (or you may roll for a random trinket on the Trinket’s table), a set of fine clothes, a signet ring, and a purse containing 25GP

Feature: Monstrous Reputation

No matter where you go, people are afraid of you due to the atrocities you’ve committed. When you are in a civilized settlement, you can get away with minor criminal offenses, such as refusing to pay for food at a tavern, or breaking down the doors of a local shop, since most people will not report your activities to the authorities. The common folk make every effort to accommodate you to avoid your wrath. You can secure an audience with a local noble, if you need to.

Suggested Characteristics

Pirates can be a rough lot, but the responsibilities of life on a ship make them generally reliable as well. Maintaining control of the entire ship comes with a plethora of bonds - to the crew, to the ship itself, and to the hunt. Life aboard a ship shapes their outlook and forms their most important attachments, and the role of Captain offers experiences most do not share.

Variant Feature: Loyal Crewman

One member of your crew has chosen to stay by your side and help you in your endeavor by handling work that’s beneath you. The crewman can perform mundane tasks for you, but they do not fight for you, will not follow you into obviously dangerous areas (such as dungeons), and will leave if they are frequently endangered or abused.
