Acolyte (Saint Shara/Talos) Image

You were trained in the rites of Talos, god of destruction and patron deity of the Leyarain Islands. The constant storms, seismic activity, volcanic eruptions, and all other natural disasters are a sign of favor from the Blazing Star. This is the largest and most dominant religion on the isles, indeed it is the largest concentration of his followers in the world. His followers on the isles venerate Saint Shara, the chosen of Talos and eventual Exarch; she singlehandedly carried his faith between the isles, establishing the three Arcas of calamitous water, air, and flame.

No matter where you grew up on these islands, you were most certainly exposed to the religion as a church to the deity exists in every major settlement. His tenets are simple if demanding; venerate and honor the destruction reaped by the elements, for it is the right of the Storm Lord to destroy any he pleases; burn, break, or otherwise destroy something in offering to him once per day, the finer the item the greater the favor; aid no one in times of natural disaster, as it is a holy rite; finally, use might wherever necessary, it is the right of the strong to inherit all.

Most follow Talos in fear, those in his clergy also fear him, but do so with a zeal that verges on fanaticism. They relish the destruction granted them through their faith, and travel to each of his three Arcas on the big island. The Arca of Calamitous Fire is the most commonly pilgrimed, though it is no less dangerous than the other two, simply the most accessible. An azure-scaled red dragon lives in the volcano hosting the Arca; she is the cobalt queen, Are'Nevaline of the brilliant flame and exacts heavy tithes on the pilgrims who come to her. Many even offer their bodies to be scorched or incinerated by her blue-hot breath. The Arca of Calamitous Water is located in Bhaelros on the Stormwall, and is most holy to the sect of Shara as it is where she set off on Shara's crossing. The final Arca, the one of Calamitous Air is on the southern shore of the Highlake overlooking the Buried Lands and the storm that swirls above them.

Skill Proficiencies: Insight, Religion
Languages: Two of your choice
Equipment: A holy symbol (a gift to you when you entered the priesthood), a prayer book or prayer wheel, 5 sticks of incense, vestments, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 15 gp.

Feature: Shelter of the Faithful

You command the respect of those who share your faith, and you can perform the religious ceremonies of your deity; those of clerical power in any church of Talos are revered and feared. You and your adventuring companions can expect to receive free healing and care at a temple, shrine, or other established presence of your faith, though you must provide any material components needed for spells. Those who share your religion will support you (but only you) at a modest lifestyle. This increases with your strength in the faith, the strongest Talossans enjoy the servitude of all in their region, not unlike a warlord or a dragon.

You might also have ties to a specific temple dedicated to your chosen deity or pantheon, and you have a residence there. This could be the temple where you used to serve, if you remain on good terms with it, or a temple where you have found a new home. While near your temple, you can call upon the priests for assistance, provided the assistance you ask for is not hazardous and you remain in good standing with your temple.

Acolytes are shaped by their experience in temples or other religious communities. Their study of the history and tenets of their faith and their relationships to temples, shrines, or hierarchies affect their mannerisms and ideals. Their flaws might be some hidden hypocrisy or heretical idea, or an ideal or bond taken to an extreme.
