Your Witcher school has been your life for as long as you can remember. You have survived their brutal trials and you have gained brothers in arms for life among the adepts who survived with you. You have very few trusted social contacts outside of your Witcher school in general and know even fewer people you would willingly work together with. Depending on the school you hail from, you don't even work with your own brethren all that much.
But nothing of this has any bearing on you, since you are well used to working alone on a job. Witchers of different schools working together is rather rare indeed, but less unheard of than working with amateurs. At least Witchers are professionals.
Throughout the year your kind is mostly found in the wilderness, on a job, but even when currently unemployed almost all of you would rather enjoy the silent company of the wild than the cold stares of the people surrounding you in taverns. Only during winter you would travel back home to your keep or, in very rare cases, stay with the Witchers of a different keep.
- Skill Proficiencies: Two skills of your own choice
- Tool Proficiencies: One type of gaming set and Alchemist's supplies
- Equipment: A set of bone dice or deck of cards, Alchemist's supplies, a Crossbow, light or a shortsword, and a pouch containing 10 gp
As a Witcher you have possibly seen the strangest and most horrible things the world has to offer its inhabitants. Think about all the places you have visited and jobs you have taken. What is the thing you will always be able to remember? Was it a monster, or perhaps the lack thereof? A different experience?
You can roll on the following table or chose one that best fits your character. Think of a fitting story!
d7 | Strange Things |
---|---|
1 | The things I have seen during my trials will always be the worst. |
2 | As a fencing master I don't take many jobs, but a student of mine once has .... |
3 | Just before heading back to the keep for the winter, a bloodied man came crying to me... |
4 | ******* vampires (however you wish to interpret this). |
5 | The Law of Surprise once granted me... |
6 | I was hired for a job elsewhere, but when I arrived the whole village was... |
7 | I have seen so many things, some already seem to blend together. It's not like I care. |
As a monster hunter for hire, you frequently interact with all kinds of people in the world, from the poorest to the richest. You know where to find work in cities and villages, and can typically get a decent price for your services.
Furthermore, as your journeys take you all over the continent, you have an excellent memory for maps and geography. You can recall the general layout of terrain, settlements and other features around you, given the fact that you have been there before. You can find fresh water and food for yourself and up to five others with ease.
You would also possibly find your way home blindfolded after having returned home for the durations of many, many, winters.
Suggested Characteristics
The horrors of the Trials, the rigid discipline of your training and life on the road have left their mark on you, shaping your ideals, creating strong bonds, and often leaving you to bear the hatred of others.
