Ademre is well known for producing powerful, capable, and talented fighters known as Adem mercenaries, or Cethan. It has many schools which teach the different ways of lethani, a philosophical mindset that lets them "never lose". If one does lose, then they know it was not of the lethani and will think of the event deeply as "shameful". People outside of Adem think of the lethani as a way that the Cethan holds in their silence, and uses it to make them stronger, faster, and more endurant. The adem laugh at this assessment. Younger Cethan are notably silent and refuse to meet eye contact, moving their fingers in strange patterns constantly, and keeping their faces studiously blank of any emotion. Every day, they wash obsessively, using any available water that is clean. If they must, they will use a washcloth and their own drinking water to bathe. If observed, they can be seen doing a slow, lethargic dance twice a day, once before bed, and once after breakfast. The adem have many customs, that while confusing to outsiders, which they call "barbarians", are seen as only sensible by all of the adem. The adem feel that sex and love are separated, and as such, are not shy about their sexual exploits.

Cethan are famous mercenaries, paid ten times what the common man is paid for any said job. As such, they will be met with respect by most people, and will be sought out in large amounts by people wishing to make use of the famed Cethan. Other Mercenaries will treat them with subdued respect, and a hint of dislike. Employers will pay at least double for any job that makes use of an adem mercenary. People watch all of the Cethan obsessively, and the things they do will be subject to extreme scrutiny.

The character has a list of contacts, which, in the case of their death, will bring their sword and sheath back to ademre, along with any available information about their death.
