You both where from another world. Think about what your home was like. This world may resemble myths and stories of your home reality. Wile you may or may not know why you are here, (Reincarnated, Summoned, Accidental Portal...)  you do remember where you came from and retain all your memories even if your not in your original body. Then some event happened and the 2 of you (Friends, Family, Lovers...) found you have been transported to another reality all together.

Clothes from your home reality, and A belt pouch with 50gp or equipment worth up to 50gp .

Tool Proficiencies: You have already had a lifetime to learn how to use tools. you can pick one of your choice. 

Languages: You know one language from your home world, and through some magical means you can also understand common and 1 language of your choice.  

Equipment: You start out with a coin purse with 50 gp in it and, a backpack. Or 50 gp worth of equipment.
