You're not great at sneaking through the alleys or shadows. Nor are you proficient with any kind of arcane arts. You may not be the most intelligent, nor the most charismatic. What you are is good in a fight. Maybe you fight for the slum rats, to protect those weaker than you, or maybe you dominate them. The only thing that's certain is that you make sure anyone who wants to pay for your protection gets their money's worth.

Skill Proficiencies: Choose one from Athletics or Acrobatics and one from Intimidation or Persuasion.
Tool Proficiencies: One gaming set of your choice.
Languages: One language of your choice.
Equipment: A gaming set (one of your choice), a letter of recommendation from a previous employer, a healer's kit, and a pouch containing 10 gp.

Feature: Reputation is Everything

When the strength of your arm is the only thing you can rely on to earn your keep, reputation is everything. Whether it's good or bad, people know your name. You can use your reputation in a manner your DM sees fit in the area you did most of your work, such as to gain higher pay from quest-givers, or to convince guards to look the other way - unless they want to learn intimately just how strong you are.

1 When someone entrusts their life or goods to me, I put that before my own life.
2 My jobs have taken me far and wide, and seeing new places is my favorite part of this gig.
3 It's important to have a plan for every eventuality. My plan B has a plan C, and so on.
4 Anything (or anyone) will do what you want it to, if you hit it hard enough.
5 Everything and everyone is a threat to my employer until proven otherwise, including those my employer trusts.
6 A mercenary is only as good as their reputation, and my word is my bond.
7 I never back down from a fight.
8 I used to be a soldier, but retirement didn't suit me. I'm not happy unless there's a fight on the horizon.
d6 Ideal
1 Wealth. I'm in it for the money. That's the only thing that matters. (Neutral)
2 Infamy. First, they'll know my name. Then they'll fear it. (Evil)
3 Strength. I train every day, so that I get more jobs, which nets more experience, which makes me even stronger. Wanna arm wrestle? (Any)
4 Trust. When someone entrusts me with their wealth, I am theirs no matter what. (Good)
5 Opportunity. An employer is only as useful as their purse is heavy. If a better offer comes along, it's worth examining. (Chaotic)
6 Camaraderie. I've worked with a lot of other hired hands, and those friendships are the reason I keep doing this. (Lawful)
d6 Bond
1 I grew up with a gang of street toughs, and they are the only family I care about.

3 I do this because, quite honestly, I have nothing better to do.
4 My job is my life. Until the next job, then that job is my life.

d6 Flaw
1 When not actively employed, I drink more than any creature should be able to drink and live.
2 My temper is explosive, and the fuse is shorter than a halfling's pinky toe.
3 I'm the best at what I do. No one is better than me. If they are, it's probably because their parents were rich.
4 Money is the only thing that matters, and I'll betray anyone to get more of it.
5 I don't mind killing if it gets the job done, even if there are ways around it. In fact, I kind of enjoy it.
6 I am incapable of thinking on my feet. If it's not part of the plan, it ain't happening.
