This is a Story Role Background. Story Roles are unique - only one player per campaign can have any one Story Role at a time. Story Roles not only define a character's background in the story, they lay out a clear role for the character to play going forward. This is the first Story Role I'm creating in a set inspired by the PBTA game "Fellowship," in which players play as a group of representatives from different peoples uniting to oppose an evil Overlord. For the purpose of these descriptions, I use the term "Overlord" as a stand-in for whatever major villain your campaign would be centered around.
You used to be close to the Overlord. Perhaps the Overlord was a family member or a childhood friend. Regardless of the specific relationship, the Overlord at one point considered you a close ally, but you betrayed them. You've chosen to oppose the Overlord because you've seen what they've become, and you are horrified. The Overlord views you as a traitor and the worst of their worst enemies: one who has proven disloyal.
- Skill Proficiencies: Skill Proficiencies: Gain proficiency in any two skills of your choice.
- Tool Proficiencies: Tool Proficiencies: You may choose either two tool proficiencies, two languages, or one of each.
- Languages: Languages: You may choose either two tool proficiencies, two languages, or one of each.
- Equipment: A set of fine clothes, a signet ring, a scroll of pedigree, and a purse containing 25 gp
You are a known hero to all who oppose the Overlord, and any who would sympathize with your cause would willingly offer you shelter, food, protection, and information so long as you don't pose any immediate danger to them. On the downside, you are one of the most despised enemies of the Overlord: the Overlord's forces are hunting you, and you are a notorious fugitive.
