Disavowed Knight

For one reason or another, you broke your knightly vows. Whether you swore an oath to a king, a god, or a principle, you no longer serve it. Your titles have been revoked, your land taken, and your favor has fallen. You may have even served some jail time or on the run from a bounty on your head. You are on your own, with only your armor and weapons.

Work with your DM to decide for what reason you broke your vows, as it can impact how the world looks at you. Did you forsake them for a good reason, as you refused to massacre unarmed peasants on your king’s orders? Did you betray your oath for selfish gain, perhaps by arranging the murder of other nobles to get claims on their lands? This reason should be a defining moment to build your character around before the real story even begins.

Will you regain what you lost through hard work and good deeds? Will you fall further and let darkness into your heart? Or will you simply leave your old life behind and start anew?

Tool Proficiencies: Smith's Tools. You no longer have a squire to care for your armor and weapons, so you learned to do it yourself.

Equipment: A memento of of your old life (an amulet, a signet ring, or an emblem), Smith's Tools, a whetstone, a set of traveler’s clothes, an explorer’s pack, and a pouch containing 10 gp.

You betrayed your vows and that can’t be changed, no matter your reason for it You can choose to hang on to what you learned in your noble upbringing or reinvent yourself. You can wallow in your shame, give in to the darkness, or look for redemption, but whatever you do, life won’t be the same again.
