Psychic Diviner Image

Through study, talent, or deception, you are a practitioner of the psychic arts. Sought out by commoners and royalty alike, you might serve a religious order as an Oracle or own a tea shop where you consult the leaves for answers; you could be a carnival worker reading palms behind a booth or a divination teacher at a prestigious school of magic. Does your usual clientele come to you seeking advice or for signs of calamity? And are you truly blessed with a third eye or are you just good at reading people?

 
Skill Proficiencies: You gain proficiency in two skills of your choosing: Perception, Insight, Sleight of Hand, or Deception. 
Tool Proficiencies: Playing card set.
Languages: One language of your choice.
Equipment: A set of traveler's clothes, a money pouch, and a deck of playing cards.
 
Psychic Ability

There are many kinds of psychics, each with their own powers. Choose the psychic ability you practice, or roll on the table below.

d8 Psychic Ability
1 Visionary. You can perceive and understand the auras of living creatures around you. When you make a successful Insight or Perception check to see a person's aura, the DM may tell you its primary color based on the character's personality. [Red: grounded and strong-willed; Orange: adventurous and bold; Yellow: friendly and playful; Green: compassionate and calm; Blue: intuitive and spiritual; Purple: creative and artistic; Black: mysterious and secretive; White: detached and thoughtless]
2 Astral Traveler. During sleep, you can choose to travel to the astral plane where you can observe the dreams of another non-hostile creature sleeping near you (within 100 feet) and who you are familiar with. You cannot affect the outcome of the dream, only observe what happens in it. Upon waking, the creature knows that you entered its dream.
3 Medium. You are a bridge to the spirit world. When a dead NPC wishes to speak, they may briefly control your voice and body (via the DM). Other players can ask the spirit one question. The spirit knows only what it knew in life, including the languages it knew, and is under no compulsion to offer a truthful answer if you are hostile to it or it recognizes you as an enemy.
4 Cartomancer. You gain insights into the past or present by formulating a simple question and then drawing a tarot card from your character's deck. When you ask a question and draw a card, make a History (past) or Insight (present) check. On a success, you draw a major arcana card that allows you to accurately divine something meaningful; on a fail, your vibrations are off and you wildly misinterpret the card.
5 Telekinetic. You have the ability to move light objects within 5ft of reach without touching them. This requires a Concentration check and quite a lot of squinting and muttering.
6 Empath. You have the ability to sense and interpret the emotions of others. Choose one non-hostile creature that you can see and make an Insight check. On a success, you know the creature's foremost emotion and can use this information to sympathize with and/or manipulate them. On a fail, you get a massive headache.
7 Palm Reader. You can deduce a non-hostile creature's ability score of your choosing. To do this requires a successful Perception check while you hold the creature's hand and focus on a single line. [Mercury Line: STR; Stability Line: DEX; Life Line: CON; Head Line: INT; Heart Line: WIS; Fate Line: CHA]
8 Tea Teller. As part of a short rest, you can brew a special pot of tea for a number of creatures equal to your proficiency bonus. The creatures drinking the tea should hold a question in their minds as they sip, then swirl the contents three times and turn their cups over. On a successful Arcana check, when you turn their tea cups right-side up you can interpret vague and whimsical answers to their questions; on a fail, you see only the Grim.
 
Feature: Cynic or Believer

The use of your psychic powers can shock and awe some observers but leave others skeptical and unimpressed. The first time a creature sees you wield your psychic abilities, it can roll a d20 to find out how impressed or not it is by your power. If the number rolled is even, the creature is believer; but if the number rolled is odd, the creature is a cynic. The higher the number, the stronger the reaction (i.e. a creature that rolled a 2 would only be slightly impressed by you while a creature that rolled a 20 would treat you like an all-knowing god).

Psychic diviners run the gambit from charlatans to visionaries but all are able to see the power in bringing to light the obscured and invisible for their clients through symbolic, emotional, or spiritual means.

4 My psychic gifts are meant to be shared with all, not used for my own benefit.

6 You can listen to me or don't and wish you had. Everyone ends up on one side of that fence.
7 No one can fake a smile, a handshake, or an interested nod like I can.
8 I live in the moment, knowing my life could be turned upside down any day.

1 I'm desperately seeking a cure to an affliction or a curse, either for someone close to me for myself.
2 I idolize a hero of the old tales and measure my deeds against that person's.
3 Someone I love has become a monster, murderer, or other threat. It's up to me to redeem them.
4 I lost someone I care about, but I still see them in guilty visions, recurring dreams, or as a spirit.
5 Spirits are drawn to me. I do all I can to help them find peace.
6 I'm secretly in love with the wealthy patron who sponsors my psychic exploits.
7 I have a friendly rival. Only one of us can be the best, and I aim to prove it's me.
8 Growing up, I had an imaginary friend I could always count on. That friend is still with me.

1 I judge others harshly, and myself even more severely.
2 I exaggerate everything, especially pain.
3 I am the worst hypocrite I have ever met.
4 It's incredibly difficult for me to make even the simplest of decisions.
5 I'm incredibly squeamish and can't stand the sight of blood.
6 I have a flair for the dramatic and love being center stage.
7 I love to gossip and can be too nosey for my own good.
8 I am jealous of other people's skills or traits, always wishing to be something I'm not.
