Archlich's Apprentice Image

After a fateful encounter—by your causing or by happenstance—you know not, you met an archlich who offered you what many crave: the chance to learn the secrets of eternal life! But it comes at a steep cost perhaps by releasing them from their prison to haunt the world again or at the cost of your soul or eternal servitude.

After years of study you are told to gain worldly experience to gain a powerful enough soul to create your own phylactery. In dreams though, the archlich still appears, giving you instructions, you know not if your actions and desires are your own or if you've been bewitched by your teacher.

Work with the DM to determine the extent of influence (if any) the archlich has on you. Do they control your actions fully? Maybe they can possess you when you are asleep. Maybe a saving throw or two is in order?

Encounter with the Archlich

How did you meet this archlich in the first place? What made you accept the terms of the apprenticeship? Work with the DM to figure these out and their ramifications

d4 Encounter with the Archlich
1 I was exploring an old tomb and found a trapped archlich who offered me tutelage in exchange for freedom.
2 an archlich found me wandering at night and offered me tutelage in exchange for my servitude.
3 An archlich wiped my former adventuring party and resurrected me as a disciple to pass on their wisdom.
4 After much searching, I found a method to gain eternal life by offering my soul and service to an archlich.

Feature: Transition Toward Undeath

As you progress in your journey,  your bond with the world of the living and undead blurs, changing how you are perceived by others and your values. As your soul gains strength so to does your flesh wither and rot, thus gaining disadvantage on charisma based checks and advantage on intimidation based ones unless disguised. Similarly most lesser undead become friendly to you and greater undead become neutral to you.

Your undead nature grants you resistance to necrotic damage but a weakness towards radiant damage.
