Maybe the realisation came to you in a dream, maybe a vision, or maybe the Universe showed you the signs. But either way, you are certain that you have a greater, darker purpose beyond that of the average mortal. You exist as an Eradicator, a hunter and destroyer of the pure-hearted, and a spreader of twisted truths. Bound by the symbolic laws of your kind, you live to enlighten others to what you believe is the truth- that all are inherently evil, and all it takes is a little push. A push that you are more than willing to give.
- Skill Proficiencies: Choose two from among Arcana, Investigation, Religion, or Survival
- Languages: Choose two, one of which must be Abyssal, Celestial, Deep Speech, Draconic, Infernal, Primordial, Sylvan, or Undercommon
- Equipment: A monster hunter’s pack (containing a chest, a crowbar, a hammer, three wooden stakes, a set of manacles, a steel mirror, a flask of oil, a tinderbox, and 3 torches), one trinket of special significance (choose one or roll on the Horror Trinkets table after this background), a set of common clothes, and 1 sp.
As an Eradicator, you must follow a number of rules placed on you by the very essence of your calling. You must wear white clothes with red gloves (to symbolise the blood on your hands), you cannot come into contact with dirt, and you cannot lie, only tell half-truths. You are naturally drawn to the number 6, and, on rolling a natural 6 on a d20, you take on a temporary physical characteristic that identifies you as an Eradicator. This can be red eyes, a white glow, or bleeding from the corners of the mouth.
Something happened to you in your past that set you on this path of dark enlightenment.
| d10 | Sign of Evil |
|---|---|
| 1 | You were forced to compete in a deadly game. You know how far people are willing to go to survive. |
| 2 | You were raised by a gang of criminals. From a young age, you were taught that to only way to get ahead was to harm others. And you were a quick learner |
| 3 | You made a deal with a fiend- convert others to evil, and you will prosper |
| 4 | You were hired to kill a wererat that lived under the town. He hadn't actually harmed anyone, but he had to go. That's when you realised how appearances mean so much more than morality |
| 5 | You were the sole survivor of a disaster. You did terrible things to survive. People judged you. But you're sure they would have done the same... |
| 6 | You were cursed with lycanthropy and later cured. It taught you a lot about yourself, things you won't forget in a hurry. Things which are true for everyone... |
| 7 | You were imprisoned by the authorities. You saw just how easily your fellow prisoners could snap. |
| 8 | You opened an eldritch tome and saw things unfit for a sane mind. You burned the book, but its words and images are burned into your psyche. |
| 9 | A fiend possessed you as a child. You were locked away but escaped. The fiend is still inside you, but now you try to keep it locked away. |
| 10 | You did terrible things to avenge the murder of someone you loved. You became a monster, and it haunts your waking dreams. |
Those who look upon you can see that, although your words of evil and violent actions are nonetheless horrific, you may at least have a point. As a result, they will (unless they are Good-aligned), do their utmost to help you. Of course, whilst they are inclined to listen to you and obey, they will not sacrifice their self-preservation for you. Selfish humans...
Suggested Characteristics
Most likely, you are extremely superstitious and driven. You were put in this world to eradicate those who claim to be good, and to tear away the hypocrisies of society. You'd love nothing more than to see the so-called 'heroes' forced into life-or-death moral dilemmas, where there is no way of escaping with an unscathed conscience. Who's the hero now?
