Son Of A Son Of An Adventurer Image

Adventure runs through your veins. You have one (or more) retired adventuring relatives. Your mom, dad, grandpa, grandma, maybe your uncle, someone you grew up around traveled the known world and brought back stories and maybe some treasure. Around every table, every fire, and every gathering you have heard wondrous tales. Some might even have been true.

Decide who, what their reputation was when they left the life of an adventurer and then work with your DM to select one or more of each of the following:

  • A tale you have heard of your families adventures. A time they met a dragon. A great success that lead to their retirement or maybe great failure. Maybe a lead they were just never able to follow up on or a lost treasure they could just never find.
  • An item passed down.
  • Contacts or "family friends" that knew your family when they were adventurers.
  • Enemies made by your families past adventuring who want to see your family and probably you fail, or maybe even dead.

Your Inheritance

Roll on the table one or more times or come up with your own. Work with your DM to keep things balanced. Inheriting powerful items or contacts could also come with inheriting enemies too.

d6 Your Inheritance
1 You are the son of a son of a sailor. You have grown up on and around ships. Discuss with your Dugeon Master what kind of ship would work well for the campaign. Make sure to come up with a name for the ship and a crew.
2 A now reteired advanturer relative has often told you about the time they met a white dragon. They were only just able to escape and lost something in the process. You know the general location of the dragon.
3 You know that you are related to a famous adventurer, but you know nothing about them. The only link you have is a magical item passed down to you. I guess you'll just have to ask around.
4 Your adventuer relative was a criminal.
5 Your adventure relative regrets the choices they made. They don't like to talk about the past and want you do to whatever makes you happy as long as it's not adventuring.
6 You're being forced into the profession of adventuring. It's not what you would have chosen but it's important to your dad/mom/relative and you want to make them proud.

Feature: Power in a Name

Your family name comes with it's advantages. You may be living in the shadow of those that came before you but using your family name can open the right doors, get discounts if mentioned in the right taverns, or get otherwise close-lipped folks to talk until the sun comes up. But be careful, mentioning your family name to the wrong folks can bring unwanted attention.
