Sanguine Devoted Image

The background of the Sanguine Devoted derives from the eternal vampiric guards of the Sanguine Paragon, a hidden collective of many sorcerers, assassins and clerical nobles devoted to the deity of blood, sacrifice and extreme forms of judicial punishment. This deity creates vessels of power called the Hemorrhage Paragons under the care of the Sanguine Paragon, the lords of visceral magic and power serving as emissaries of the deity known as the Severed Omen. The Hemorrhage Paragons, are sorcerers and clerics chosen from the collective to act as the enforcers and protectors. The collective accepts all individuals willing to cast aside their beliefs and choose to serve the god of the Sanguine, and the end goal for any practicing devoted is to become a Hemorrhage Paragon of the Severed Omen and become an ascended member of their house. As to become a Paragon is to become a guardian of the deity themselves, not just a servile worshipper.

The Sanguine Paragon has been seen to immoral and too cold, for mortal judgement but the collective exists to carry the legacy of their millennia old family. To devote the blood of the unworthy to the Severed Omen as their vampiric ancestors did and achieve ascendance beyond their current plane of existence. The Sanguine Paragon many families under their control and inside their groups, children born under the Sanguine Paragon's banner are blessed with the blood of a Hemorrhage Paragon in hopes of becoming one. The children of Sanguine-born families are trained from birth to control the flow of visceral energy and thus the entirety of the Paragon, aside from a few, are all medics and knights trained in love of the Severed Omen, becoming infused with knowledge, and power of blade, bandage and blood.

The Paragon rarely interacts with the rest of the realm and to exile an individual from the Paragon is to brand them a traitor to the divine. This exiling is so incredibly rare that the exiled have formed a sub-section of the Paragon called the Severed. Little is known about these individuals and thus they often develop their own practices of more depraved bloodthirsty society.

Variant Sanguine Devoted: The Severed

A Devoted may wish to commit an exiling act upon the Paragon and thus via ritual they are severed from the care of their house and any family they have inside the care of the Paragon will be shunned or exiled also. This exiling is so incredibly rare that the exiled have formed a sub-section of the Paragon called the Severed. Little is known about these individuals and thus they often develop their own practices of more depraved bloodthirsty society. This includes mimicking the action of their vampiric ancestors by sacrificing unwanted individuals, turning to hate the Severed Omen as a deity and even engaging in an unending lust for blood-drinking or cannibalism. This due to the divine power of the Severed Omen, no longer protects them from the temptation of depravity. And in turn the Severed have found another deity capable of caring for them, the Eclipsed One, sister to the Severed Omen.

However the Severed have formed their own house. This house however is constantly under conflict and famine as the Paragon no longer supports them and thus they cannot support themselves to a full extent. It is nigh-unheard of to witness a Hemorrhage Paragon leave the Paragon but it is possible and the leader of the Severed is a previously excommunicated Hemorrhage Paragon, and in turn any Severed seen to be conspiring with them will be hunted down. This threat puts any Severed under constant watch by the assassins and knights of the Paragon, so a Severed will be heavily reliant on the power of the Eclipsed One.

Variant Feature: Eye of the Eclipsed

A Severed bears no connection to the Sanguine Paragon and thus they may not hold residence, perform rituals, or speak to any member of the Paragon at any time, instead relying on the guidance of the Eclipsed One, which grants them passage to any settlement of Severed. The way of contacting the Eclipsed One is usually via prayer to a crude effigy, and companions of a Severed will be allowed entry into a settlement of Severed Devotees. This will allow them moderate care and supplies but with the added risk that their group will be under watch by the Paragon's assassins and headhunters.
