You left your home dimension under duress. Maybe because it was being invaded by an overwhelming enemy, or perhaps because it was breaking up due to some unforeseen cosmic catastrophe. However it happened, you had to survive the transition to a brand-new realm of existence. This harrowing experience taught you many things about yourself and others - some good, some terrible - but all contributed to your survival and who you are now.
- Skill Proficiencies: Persuasion, Stealth
- Languages: Two of your choice
- Equipment: A journal with a record of where you came from and how you got to where you are now, a leather amulet set with a stone from your home plane (50 gp value), set of common clothes, and 5 gp.
Why did you flee your home dimension, and how is it that you've decided to take up a new life? You can work with your GM to come up with a story, possibly using the Reason for Fleeing table to inspire your unique situation.
| d8 | Escape From Another Plane |
|---|---|
| 1 | Fiends, uncompromising celestials, aliens, or abberations invaded my home dimension. |
| 2 | My home dimension/world was destroyed due to a natural cosmic disaster. |
| 3 | My home dimension/world was destroyed due to over-exploitation by my own kind. |
| 4 | Actions I undertook (for noble or ignoble reasons) singled me out, and I fled for my life. |
| 5 | Actions falsely attributed to me singled me out, and I fled for my life. |
| 6 | Prophecy indicated that if I didn't leave, my home dimension/world would be destroyed. |
| 7 | My home dimension/world hasn't yet been destroyed; I fled to find some way to save it. |
| 8 | I didn't flee for cosmic reasons (though I might say I did); I fled to get away from my family. |
You can always find a place to take you in, usually in the home of a kindly local who sympathizes with your plight, but possibly at an inn or tavern, or even a cot in the barracks of a noble's garrison. In such places, you enjoy room and board of modest standards without paying, so long as you don't overstay your welcome (usually no more than 1d4 + 1 days). In addition, your story (if you tell it) burnished your image, and locals who recognize you are inclined to at least give you their attention, if only to hear your tale.
Suggested Characteristics
Crossplane refugees were forced (in most cases) to flee their home dimensions to save their own lives. Why, when and how a crossplane refugee takes to the multiverse has a profound influence on their attitudes and ideals. Many have recurring nightmares of some aspect of the experience.
