Arcane Inventor Image

You spent years fiddling around with the machines, apparatuses, devices, and gadgets. You scoured manuscripts, studied scrolls, and listened to the greatest minds on every plane of existence. Your efforts have made you a master at taking devices apart, learning how they tick, and reassembling them in ways that improve their original designs (if you do not already possess this knowledge).

Skill Proficiencies: Arcana, Investigation
Tool Proficiencies: Tinker's Tools, Carpenter's Tools, Smith's Tools
Languages: None
Equipment: a mysterious cog, gear, or other internal part from an unknown machine you have not yet been able to place, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp

Feature: Tinkerer

When you are not in combat (once per short rest), you can repair one non-magical item, weapon, or piece of armor of your choosing (belonging to you or one of your companions) that has been broken. This ability applies to common, uncommon, or rare only (upon reaching level 10, you can add very rare; upon reaching level 15, you can add legendary; upon reaching level 20, you can add artifact). The device you repair gains a +2 modifier to Damage rolls (if it is a weapon), +1 to your Dexterity modifier (if it is armor), or a +1 to a modifier of your choice (if it is a non-magical item).

Suggested Characteristics

Tinkerers are defined by their extensive mechanical know how, and their characteristics reflect this life of diligent practice. Devoted to the pursuit of apparatuses, a tinkerer values technology and its many applications highly—sometimes in its own right, sometimes as a means toward other ideals.
